Need help finding a book

Hi,

I am hoping someone here will remember this book. It is something I read years ago and want to find again. It is a SCI-FI novel.

Starts out onboard a Medical space ship under attack. Includes a race of aliens humans are fighting that communicate via smell. The are defeated with a virus that is injected into their communcations systems.

Those are really only the details i can remember, I really hope someone can think of this book.

Boy, this is sounding really familiar. Do you think it might have been a Star Trek:Voyager novel? Or was it a stand-alone?
