Anybody into Nelson DeMille?
He's terriffic!
The General's Daughter may be the best known of his books, having been made into a movie with John Travolta.
Night Fall is a superb and chilling, intricate novel (I'm sounding like a book jacket).
Right now I've almost finished Plum Island, and it is also fantastically absorbing.
Anyone that likes Clice Cussler would probably like DeMille. I strongly recommend the 3 books I referenced above. And, if you are already into his books, I'd welcome a discussion about him.
Part of his appeal to me is that he is a resident of Long Island, and some of his plots center around NYC local areas and places that I know, which is always fun.

I really enjoyed Plum Island also...except the ending could have been better. I have Night Fall which I will read soon.
You would probably enjoy Rules of Prey by John Sandford.

Night Fall is one of the best books I've read recently. I recommend it to anyone who will listen! I'm a sucker for a good conspiracy--and the timeline leading up to 9/11 was very suspenseful. I can't wait for DeMille's Wild Fire.. I really like John Corey as the lead character. The first DeMille I read was The Gold Coast and I loved it (even though Corey wasn't the star).

I have only read The General's Daughter, but maybe I'm an odd one for thinking that the movie is better than the book. Blasphemy, I know. ;)

Libre,

Check out my post on the Mystery forum.

I'd have to say Up Country is one of his best books, just because of all the detail involved and the way he had to balance two stories at the same time. Brilliant!

I loved the surprise ending in Night Fall and I'm eagerly reading through Plum Island right now.

Love, love, love his books, he can't write them fast enough for me. :p Only had one book I did not enjoy and off the top of my head - I can't remember the name of it.

Interesting, I have never been interested in Cussler's books. Maybe I should give one a try.

Reading "Wild Fire" currently and it is pretty good. Great dialogue, terrifying story... albeit a little long. Overall he's a very, very nice read.

Anyone else enjoy this fella?

His books are enjoyable for the most part, however he really hit one out of the park in my opinion with the Gold Coast. I just read the new sequel the, "The Gate House" and enjoyed it as well.

I haven't been on this forum for a long time.
I was just clicking around, and well, here I am again.

Since I posted this thread, I've read Wildfire, Goldcoast, and Up Country.
Wildfire I found weak - the weakest of all his books that I've read.

With Goldcoast, he hit one out of the park, as 753C said.

Up Country, all in all, is one of my favorite books in history. As literary as Goldcoast was, as intricate and captivating as Nightfall, as absorbing as Plum Island, Up Country outdid them all. Each scene was spellbinding. I felt like I accompanied the main character every step of his extraordinary journey. I loved it beyond belief. It was one of those books that stays with you a loooong loooong time.

I tried Plum Island last year and gave up half the way. It's a rare thing for me with thriller.I don't think i will read any more Demille, ever.

I probably wouldn't pick up a book by DeMille but if you offer me the same in audio I wouldn't say no. I absolutely loved all his books in audio.

I tend to the thriller novels and it seems to me that demille tends to write some thriller novels and some that are not so. So I am not as nuts about his works as some of the others in here are.

Plum island was audio, and believe me ,you would regret it.The main charactere is a self satisfied Moron(capital M) with a 2 pennies sense of humour.

The only book of his that I've read is Up Country. For what it is, an adventure book, I really enjoyed it. It had suspense and action and all that, and it kept me turning the pages. But at the same time, I wouldn't put it in my favorites list. The love subplot was predictable to me, and I didn't really like the female character that much anyway, so I could have done without it. And I couldn't shake the feeling that DeMille was determined to squeeze in as much info about Vietnam as he possibly could, and though I would love to visit that part of the world and love learning about different cultures, it also felt kind of like he was sneaking in a school lesson wherever he could. But all said and done, it was a good read.

Very first book I read by him was The Gold Coast. I was on vacation, sitting by the lake and I was spellbound by the book; spent hours under the shade of a tree reading. I've gone on to read most of his books and am never disappointed.

Up Country was my favorite too; I enjoyed how Paul Brenner re-told his military experiences along the way to meet the witness of the killing of the Army Lieutenant. I think I read it more than five times... :) My eldest daughter (16) loves it too.

One highlight of reading this novel is that I always imagine John Travolta as Paul Brenner. Yes, I have also read General's Daughter and watched the movie too.

I am still waiting for the next one, but so far nothing heard out.

I have also read the other series of John Corey; thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
