There was a boy who went to war across the mountains. There he fought against the enemy and was awarded medals for honour and bravery. The war lasted for decades and when it was finally over he returned to his village expecting to see his family but they had long since perished from an epidemic. Impoverished, he became a peasant amongst the village people and, when asked who the man was the villagers would say his name and make up their stories about him. One day though, a child showed that he was unafraid of the haggaard old warrior and talked to him. They had fun together and the boy asked the man to tell him a story and so the man sat the boy on his knee and started his tale:
