Hi, This is a new experience for me. I live in southwest Florida I am happy that I found this forum, and I hope to share some of the books I am reading. Also to perhaps get some idea from others on some good "reads" as a gift to my brother who is in the hospital. Can anybody recommend anything?

Preference ?

He reads both fiction and non fiction. He is extremely depressed so, I would like to find something humorous or mysterious and completely absorbing. He reads all the best sellers like Patterson, Creighton, Stephen King. So I am looking for something off the beaten track.

Humorous? In that case I recommend Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris.

Although he's not everyone's style, I have always enjoyed Patrick F. McManus's stuff.

As far as non-fiction, Bill Bryson would be a good choice too I think. As would Anthony Bourdain.

Try The Barrytown Trilogy by Roddy Doyle. Three novels in one and increasingly hilarious.

Hi there

Really enjoyed Salmon Fishing in the Yemen by Paul Torday.

Makes you chuckle - in fact, you have to go back and read the page to make sure you got it right.

I hope your brother gets well soon - depression is so sad.
