Next fantsy book? Newbie fantasy-reader need advise!

Several of my friends are really into the whole fantasy scene, and i've got to admit i am too, but they actually seem to know what they're talking about.. anyway, they recommended the "dragonlance chronicles". If you're just starting to read fantasy i found these to be a good starting point because they're full of action and heroism. I loved this trilogy. The other books written by Margarety Weis and Tracy Hickmann are good too but these, in my opinion, were the better ones.

As i was saying i agree with reading the dark materials trilogy, i found them really interesting.. different from the 'set' fantasy routine - i admit that is a generalisation but true to an extent
