Night time reading: Can you do it? Do you do it?

I love to read at night, because, well, I sleep during the day. Except on school days! Most of the time, I'll start reading just as the sun goes down and won't stop until I finish the book or the sun comes up again. If I'm really close to the end, then I'll push it even longer.

Also, when I wake up when I sleep at night, I'll grab a book and read again until I fall asleep, which almost never happens. :(

I read all through the day. but I get attached to the book at night, specially when I get prepared to sleep!

I love reading at night, but i fall asleep too quickly.
The book falling on the floor usually startles me awake again and i can usually read another chapter or two before it happens again and i give up.
Afternoons in the garden is my best time.

i stay up really late reading and read at night because i start reading and i jsut can't put the book down! for some reason, the books i read get a lot more interesting at night, when i have to go to bed so i end up reading pretty late. this spring, i stayed up pretty late (2-ish) and read a lot because the books were just a lot more interesting at 1 a.m!

I do most of my reading after about 10PM. It's not unusual for me to read until 1 or after. With 4 kids, those are the only quiet hours we have.

I read pretty much whenever, but books have gotten me through the night when I have really bad insomnia. Then again, books don't normally put me to sleep, so I guess it isn't really helping to situation.

During school I normally read before bed, though. It calms me down so I can get some shut-eye.

I'll read before going to bed, although most of the time I get too tired and I stop after a certain amount of pages. When I can, I do most of my reading during the day.

I always read at night.. usually from about 1am-3am these days. Night time just seems to set the mood best for me.

Exactly!, it's calm, quiet, and a good way to "wind down" in every respect for the day.:)

Have anyone tried to read in the morning? Just when you wake up on Sunday and while still laying in your bed you grab the book you were reading last night and cover several pages. I've done it during vacations only, when I'm Mr. Lazy :D

I always wake up a few minutes before the alarm goes off-which is really early anyway:rolleyes: - but often I'll take my book out to the living room to read while the coffee brews.

I always read before I go to sleep. But i tend to get sleepy & never accomplish the amount of pages I want to read before falling asleep. Though the other night I started at 12 am and stayed up until 6am to finish reading Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. Ah It's beautiful to be off of school to do that!

I always read before bed. Some nights it is only a few pages and then the next night i can lay there for 2 or more hours reading. Helps me to relax so that i can get my minds off other stuff and sleep well. :)

Night watch

Reading at night helps me unwind, sometimes I can't fall asleep unless I read a few pages even if they don't actually make me fall asleep, they just make me relax and forget about the problems of the day.In summer I like reading at night with my window open, feel the cool breeze coming in in summer nights, hear the leaves of the trees and a dog barking in the distance or a night train passing. It gets me in the mood for reading.

And yes, lazy mornings in bed are great, the first thing I do on Sunday morningds is pick up the book near my bed and read a few pages.:)

I do this a lot on the weekends. I'll usually read for half an hour, and then I get up and read the paper. A lot of times I'll fall asleep mid-chapter, and then pick it up and finish from where I left off while I wake up.

I think the night and the very early dawn are great times to read because of the peace and quiet, and they are good times to read because those moments seem more magical. When you read in the heart of the night or the birth of the dawn then anything magical seems so much more possible. Of course, reading fantasy at those times is even better.

I totally agree. There's something about the birds chirping and the sun rising that makes reading more enjoyable. It's peaceful.

When I was growing up, half an hour of reading was required by my mom every night before lights out. To this day I can not sleep unless I have read something! So, this causes me to stay up until all hours - I get in bed and start a new book and I don't realize how long I've been reading until my poor husband begs me to turn off the light somewhere around 2 AM....

I'm fresh out of holidays and back at school, and attempting to sleep at 10 or 11ish is completely pointless. So I have become an obsessive night reader, usually until 12 or 1.

But when I am in my usual school mode, I read for maybe half an hour before I fall asleep.

Lately, I have been very into waking 20 minutes earlier and reading before I go to school (and then on the shcool bus on the way to school)

Night just has this atmosphere that makes reading so much more deep and enjoyable. It changes everything.
