So, a serious shot in the dark on this. When I was young (late elementary, early middle school I believe) a friend of the family let me borrow some books her sons had read. She said she can't recall what the books are either, and neither can her sons. It has a bit of a christian influence, along the lines of Narnia I believe. All I have is a description of the books, and it may be a bit spotty now, but I'd really like to find this for when I have children.

It's a series of books about a young boy with a lot of siblings. His family carved Christmas ornaments for each of their children with the first letter of each of their names. For their youngest son, instead the carved a quartered circle. In time, the young boy had to find other similar symbols of the various elements (fire, water, iron, and I think maybe one or two others). I also recall that there was a female supporting character that played a fairly large roll, as well as an albino.

I could have SWORN that one of the books was called 'The Witch of Greenwich Village' but no searches on do on the internet get my any results even close to that.

If any of this is ringing bells with anyone, I'd really appreciate it.
