Hey I am looking for the most captivating novels that deal with social/ethical issues. If you guys know any good ones, your suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated as this is for grade 12 English and I need to do my best :)
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the replies guys.
Any suggestions that are similar to something like The Sister's Keeper?
Because we have to choose books that deal with current social issues (sorry I didn't mention it before)

Beloved - Toni Morrison
The Known World - Edward P. Jones
The Confessions of Nat Turner - William Styron
The Executioner's Song - Norman Mailer
The Chosen - Chaim Potok
The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck

I'm juggling a few options right now but I don't know if I've found the right one yet.
I need something that is going to be about an interesting, unique social issue so that my presentation can stand out.
Something broad like "war" would be alright but what would be even better would be a specific topic of war.
I was thinking about Catch-22 but I'm not sure if I can relate the themes in this book to social issues in our world TODAY.
Anyone know about Catch-22?
You guys are great thanks a lot.

If you need something more topical, there's 334 by Thomas Disch. It deals with overpopulation and how the government prevents the 'wrong' sort of people breeding. Not an easy read though.

Never Let Me Go is quite topical - cloning, organ transplants. It's a relatively easy read and the writing is sublime.

The "war is bad" theme in books like Catch-22 is very broad, not very original and will be difficult to make stand out.
