Nuclear survival, cant think of the title

i read a book in high school about 6 yrs ago, heres the summary:

a girl family ventures out after a nuclear war, they left her in a valley that was untouched by the radiation, they never come back so she fends for herself but a new man comes along and she has to deal with him and his radiation sickness and she gets out of the valley and goes on with life.


i really want to read this book again but i cant think of the title and i never paid attention to the author, if u can help it would be great. thanks
