Alright. I'm taking a poll on which four characters in this book changes the most. This would greatly help with my dynamic characters essay, which I'm really struggling with at the moment. So please post what you think, and stay to disscuss :)

Wouldn't that be a subjective question? Only someone who reads the book can answer that.

Now get to it! Read the darn book.

Yes, I have read the book. The reason I am having trouble with this project is because I have to use three characters, OTHER THAN SONNY, to describe. I'm obviously going to use Sonny's dad, but I can't quite figure out who else "dramatically changes", as the instructions put it. I'm maybe thinking about using Miss Riley. Even though her personality doesn't change much, she does get Cancer, which is a big change, and probably effected her more than the book tells us. Does that count? My other possibilities have been the mom and Quentin, but they really don't change much either. Does anyone have a character in mind that could be helpful? I woulld really appreciate it :)

Any comments on the characters I mentioned above (besides Sonny and his dad, I know enough on them) would also be great. Anything I missed that shows these characters changed more than I thought...

You say you "read"(in past tense) the book, but did you really read it? If you did, you'd know how to answer the questions and write that essay. Looks like you have to go back and not just look at the words on the pages, but really read the books content.

I've already started rereading parts of book, because yes, I rushed through it the first time. But I didn't just read it to get it over with...I really do understand the context. And have you read it? Despite what you may think, there really aren't a lot of characters in it that go through dramatic changes. Sonny's friends stay really the same, besides the fact that building rockets probably made them smarter. I'm trying to look at less important characters, or just things I missed in any characters, to find the answer to my problem. But it isn't working, so I'm looking for help.

Sadly, I hate to say it. This forum won't help you. Spending the time reading it AGAIN and again, until you find your answers.

Well, I can at least try. Considering how many times I've already been through the book, I really don't think my insight on all this is going to change. I really do just need some other opinions, anyone I can discuss it with. Nobody has to give me direct answers, I wasn't expecting that, but I just need a little guidance.

Try these

Here's some suggestions.

Billy - At first, he's just the rocket boy who has good eyesight. Gradually, he begins to help more with the rockets and grows in stature within the group as a result.

Roy Lee - Not serious about much of anything when first presented, he becomes a much deeper individual throughout the book as the boys of the BCMA set a good example for him.

Jake - When Sonny meets him, he's just a drunkard but eventually proves to be a mentor for Sonny and the BCMA.

Valentine - She is gorgeous, rough, and a bit angry when we first read about her but in the end, she proves to be tenderhearted especially toward Sonny.

Elsie - At first unbending in her contempt for Coalwood, throughout the book she gradually softens her feelings since the machinists and much of the town are supportive of Sonny.

Sonny - changes from a naive kid without any strong feelings about anything to a young man with a passion for rockets and life itself.

Mr. Turner - Always very stern and unyielding, the rocket boys provide him a chance to grow into a more understanding and supportive man.

Leon Ferro - At first not very helpful in building the BCMA's rockets, he becomes more helpful throughout the text until he's proud of what his shop is doing. He grows as a result.
