*OPERATION BOOK DROP: Books for troops*

One thing that never makes it on to the list that I know the troops love is tobacco products. You can buy them in the PX over there, but the quality stinks. If the service member you send them to doesn't smoke/dip, he has a buddy that does.

:cool: I salute you! I served for 15 years and had many deployments. I really appreciate all of those who continue to serve especially during such an unpopular offensive. We all salute them.

Thanks Book. I have to shake the trees again to find another address. The one that I had is now back in the states. Evidently, you can't just put a unit's name, it has to be addressed to an individual soldier. There are a ton of them where I serve, so it won't be too hard for me to find another. E-mails sent far and wide to folks I know, will update later.:cool:
 
OK, I may have someone who is willing to receive the books and pass them out. I think the best way to do this is to have the books sent to me then I'll send them off to him.

This looks like a really good idea.
Just another idea that might help you get a lot of books in a short period of time - why don't you start up a charity for the medical center on BookMooch: exchange books and trade them, like a book swap or book barter In this way, people can donate points (all explained on the website) and you can use those points to get free books for the troops? The people in the medical centre could even use the website to get specific books that they would like - delivered direct from the person with the book available to the centre.
 
hey there! my boyfriend was an injured soldier and is currently in the army but no longer being deployed and what not... we send packages to his unit all the time so if i can help that way let me know ^_^ ive got tons of paperbacks tho... got a whole bunch of james patterson books but most of my other books are bound in duct tape so the binding lasts longer for numerous readings ^_^ let me know if i can help!
 
Update: I have a valid APO to send books to so if anyone wants to send me books, drop me a PM and I will send you my address.

Wanted: SciFi, Non-fiction, action adventure, classics, and romance. Paperback preffered but hardcover gladly accepted.

Anyway to do an Ebook drop as well? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. Do soilders have access to kindle or nooks. I'm sure ALOT of Authors would be willing to donate tons of ebooks...not sure how that would work...just a thought!

But what a great idea!
 
Yes. Some soldiers have Kindles and Nooks but if you don't have an email address for them, it's kind of a moot point to send them anything.

Most authors that I know have their books on smashwords.com as well as other sitesYou don't need an email address to gift a book there. You can just give them the link and a coupon code.

So basically you could comprise a list of say 1,000 book links on smashwords with 1,000 coupon codes for them to download them for free. Plus they wouldn't need a kindle or nook necessarily. Smashwords allows you to read directly on the computer or on pretty much any reading device you have including a phone. And it would be much cheap to mail a few sheets of paper with a few thousand links than to send actual books.... just saying...
