I read some of the things people write on Twitter and Facebook and I think they're being sardonic in their wit, ironic to an extreme. Then a tweet or two later and I realise they're being quite serious, and a part of me dies inside.

It's scary to think that there are folks out there who aren't clued in to what's happening - don't know enough to even be scared about terrorism although maybe ignorance is bliss. momac:sad:

Why be scared of terrorists when you are much more likely to be killed by your neighbours car? As long as you are not scared by them they are irrelevant. We hurt ourselves much more than the terrorists do by letting them control our lives. The main damage to us in the "war against terror" is coming from our own goverments trying to "protect us".

Hello Zolipara: I think I would want to know if danger existed - probably many of us worry about things that may never happen - however it's good to know that your government is vigilant. Whether or not this actually protects you from the danger at least someone is trying to keep you aware and warning you to be careful. I guess living in Canada we are maybe not in the same state of high alert and maybe we should be more aware. You would certainly want to be warned about dangerous weather, ie, hurricanes, tornadoes etc. in order to remove yourself from that danger if possible. I was five years old when WWll broke out and at that age I knew who Hitler was and certainly knew about the danger when the sirens sounded for us to get to the bomb shelter. I don't think that not worrying or not knowing about danger makes it irrelevant if it impinges on your safety. momac

Yes, Zolipara, I agree. Terrorism is not a weapon, but a tactic. And a facet of that tactic is to invoke a state of fear and paranoia wherein the behaviour of a collective society changes; ofttimes resulting in freedom being one of the biggest casualties. As you said "The main damage to us in the "war against terror" is coming from our own governments trying to "protect us"." i.e. infringement of civil rights and liberties.

Once a society's behaviour changes...well...putting it rather simplistically and crudely, terrorism scores a win.

People not knowing who Osama Bin Laden was? Ah yes, that only enforces my belief that humanity's capacity for ignorance (and stupidity) is infinite...
