I wanted to ask if we could make or own Big Read like the BBC?!
We could make a list of the 100 best books (maybe 50 best classics + 50 best "modern") and everybody can tick off the books he/she read.
There could be a list of all members and which books each one read. It would be a little competition who would have all books first.
I think i would be fun and motivate the people to read these books.
What do you think? Would you like that?

@mods/admin: Would that be possible?

Cheers :D

I forgot something: Maybe we should leave out children books and maybe Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings too 'cause anyone who hasn't read the last two till now won't do in the near future.

I know that's it lacking purpose but I was bored and tried to keep myself busy with something. :D

I think it would be interesting, not for the sake of competition, but to see who has read what, and just how popular classics and popular novels really are.

'TBF Big Read'? I can't think of anything that would excite me more!!!!!!

WOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOO! TBF Big Read! Wooo-Hoooo!

And now for my next trick...

I think it sounds fun. :D

Nah, leave his head up his ass. Maybe he will find his brain someday. I doubt it, but hope springs eternal.

Ah, and Gizmo, to address your question :)

I think it's an ok idea but I feel that there is not really enough of us here to make it work well :)

I didn't really take a lot of notice of the BBC big read but the BBC greatest britons thing was done well. Individuals chose their greatest briton and did a 30 minute programme arguing the case. If we each chose our favourite book and argued the case then we could vote after reading the said books. There aren't too many of us and it could introduce us to books we wouldn't normally read. But I refuse to read LOTR or TH again. And I'm certainly not going to re-read The Silmarillion. I've read it three times and I'm still not too sure what it's about. I'll choose Arthur Dogboy's Long Weekend and I'm prepared to pay the postage to send it around the world so that everyone else can read it (that way I get everybody's addresses and my internet stalking can reach new and giddy heights). It's a totally obscure book and I doubt whether many libraries would be able to access it.

PS: Why are heights always giddy? And why does the e come bfore the i in that word?

It's a pity the public voted for somebody whose importance wasn't much compare to the others. Saying that, the public voted David Beckham into that list (circa. #40) - idiots!

Now, now, children, let's play nice.((wagging finger))

"But he started it." ((They reply in chorus))

How many times have I told you? Just because he jumps off a bridge doesn't mean you have to....
