Out of print books - it's a TRAGEDY!

What books are out of print that you think shouldn't be?

I've got one that has been on my mind lately.

The Girl in a Swing by Richard Adams. This is the finest horror novel I have ever had the pleasure (or unpleasure) of reading. The writing itself is poignant, and the story is haunting and heart-wrenching. Mr. Adam's use of mythology to carry this story to it's shattering end is superb. Of course, Richard Adams is best known for Watership Down, another incredible novel, but if you are looking for something different by him, pick up a used copy of this one. If you are a Stephen King fan, this may not be your type of book, because the writing style is quite different.

It saddens me that The Girl in a Swing is no longer in print.

The Book of Common Dread by Brent Monahan. An excellent vampire novel that deserved a bigger audience. The sequel, Blood of the Covenant, was a slightly lesser work but enjoyable nonetheless.

I am curious, though. I see a lot of people that seem to have a dislike for Dan Brown's books. May I ask why? I haven't read him, don't really have an interest in reading him, but I am a bit curious why so many think his work is awful.

You either love or hate the man, I find. I just found his work was sloppy, repetitive and predictable, The Da Vinci Code was fairly drab for me. And there's usually strife over how well "researched" the books actually were. I think, also, there's the whole anger over the religious claims it makes, I personally don't care because I believe it's fiction. (And there's the research argument)

I can't really think of any out-of-prints, but I know there was a fantasy novel I read when I was younger that isn't around anymore. It was a neat book, I wish i could find it just for nostalgic value. I love the horror books listed here though, looking forward to seeing what others suggest.

A few years ago I was searching for "The Anatomy of Success" by Nicolas Darvas. It was out of print but I found a few copies for sale at around $200 each, but that was out of my price range. Just for kicks, I searched for it again and found it back in print from BN Publishing in paperback for $16. So keep your eyes open, you can never tell if someone will pick a book up.

I was a bit distressed when I discovered that The Year of the Angry Rabbit by Russell Braddon was out of print. Most of the copies that I found online were priced between $75 and $100. (I'm not paying that much for a single book no matter how much I like it.) Yet I eventually found one for ten dollars so now I'm pleased to have it on my bookshelves.

It's a shame that so many good books become out-of-print and yet there's no end to the supplies of certain books that we wish would just go away.

How great is this....there was a book that was out of print that I really wanted to read for a couple of years now. I couldn't remember the exact title, so I went on eBay to look it up. I had previously looked on the eBay for the book, but it was too expensive for me to buy - over a $100. Well, low and behold the book was re-published in April of this year! Yahoo, a trip to Barnes & Noble is in my very near future.

Anyway the book is called Once A Runner, by John L. Parker. It's a cult classic among runners....I've never read it, but I will soon.

there are also lots of novels by taylor caldwell (specially the older ones) and a couple of gary jennings i havent had the chance to read because they havent been printed in (probably) my lifetime
