i have arthritis and bad cramps sometimes, i used to take midol, or motrin but its really useless cause they dont work anymore. could anyone recomend something for my pain thats strong enough but gentle? im allergic to tylenol and aspirin makes me sick.

Aleve is what we have here - similar to Ibuprofen (Motrin) but different, so it may work.

Might be time to visit with the doc about it and see what he recommends, stretching exercises might help, as you don't want to get addicted to painkillers.

I actually don't take anything unless I really badly need it, otherwise they work less and less as your body gets used to it. Half the time a placebo effect seems to help though when taking any kind of pill.

Yeah, but that only works when you believe the placebo is gonna work - if you grab a box with big black letters on it saying Placebo's, and you take some, expecting the pain to go away, you're outta luck.

Maybe Ibuprofen is just a very believable placebo.

Cheers, Martin

lol I believe that was the point I was trying to make :p

I have a long running argument with my boyfriend over exactly this. If he ever gets really ill, he's told me he wants the best placebo money can buy, but I think you're better off with panacea. I know it's not popular anymore, and has been largely superceded by acupuncture, but just compare their track records. There's really no contest.

And from the list, the only thing up there that really works for me is Exedrin.

Ibruprofen is the generic name, but it's the same stuff if you're buying Motrin, Advil, generic, or whatever Ice said.

Excedrin is Aspirin and Tylenol (which also has many names) with caffeine. Excedrin Migrane is the same as regular Excedrin, just different package directions.

Have you tried acupuncture? I've had friends who've had good luck with it.

Is Tylenol the same as Paracetamol?

Ibuprofen is good for arthritis, or some of the stronger anti-inflammatory meds which are only on presciption over here. Best to go have a chat with the doc as they can cause stomach ulcers if used longterm.

Lahondas for the Arthritis you need to take vitamins to help it. I take Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM vitamins along with my daily and I have almost no arthritis pain.
