Well, that's not as bad as I had envisioned, I guess... what are these conkers made up of? Mother's fine china?
Erm - they're Conkers. A produce of the Horse chestnut tree. I don't consider it to be a dangerous game - though you did receive some hefty bruises if you weren't careful

I know they stopped doing "tug-of-war' during Field Day at my daughters Elementary School because one time during a tug-of-war when the winning team was signaled that they had won, they let go of the rope to celebrate, well, the losing team was still pulling, and the result was they all fell backward onto each other. One kid ended up with a broken arm....so now there is no tug-of-war on Field Day....

...and what's British bulldogs?

Another playground game. You start off lined up at one end with a 'catcher' in the middle (sometimes more than one). You then have to get to the other side without being tackled. If you are caught and wrestled to the ground (though some used to play it that you were just caught or tagged) then you also became one of the 'catchers'. It carries on until everyone has been caught :)

Our kids play a game like that in the pool called "sharks and minnows".

One "shark" starts off in the water, and all the "minnows" have to swim from one side of the pool to the other without getting caught. The minnows start out of the water and are allowed to take a 3 step running dive. All the shark has to do is tag the minnow to make them a shark. The first minnow tagged in the game becomes the next games first shark. Last minnow swimming is the overall winner.

Does it make me a bad person if I think this is funny? I'm trying not to, but I just can't do it.

The biggest kid at my particular junior school was always the most difficult to ‘capture’, due partly to the fact he was at least two years of growth ahead of everyone else, and partly due to his tactic of arming himself with a cricket bat which he used to swing round his head as he ran up and down.
As I used to sit next to him in class it normally fell on me to tackle him first, based on the false assumption that ‘he’s your mate, he won’t hit you as hard’. Happiest days of your life, my arse!

 Good to see that the British ideals of fair play are still going strong!
