Pictures of your book collection

OK. I've finally gotten around to this. I've got books in so many places that I didn't want to post them here, so I made them their own little page. There's probably another hundred or so novels in my car or in other small piles around the house and another hundred out on loan.

mehastings - a hundred out on loan??!! My lord woman! I have one out on loan and have to stave off panic attacks whenever I think about the poor thing being away from home!

I need a tonic...

Loan is a loose term... It is really more like "I don't have room for all my books, so I'll put my name in this one and wonder if I will ever see it again".

:)
I really like an honest person.

To me it is a new concept to keep books in your car... Mind you, there are often one or two in my car, but large scale? That just seems weird to me.

Ha. You'd have to see my car. It is a hatchback that I pretty much use as storage for stuff I don't have room for. The books are burried under bags of yarn, jackets, and other assorted stuff. The problem starts when I'm headed to work with an almost done book. I usually grab two or three to have a few to choose from. The extra books generally end up tossed in the trunk when I need to clear the front seat for someone to sit in. This has been going on for the three years I've owned the car. I know that this is a problem, I just don't have the time or space to deal with it right now.

In case it isn't obvious from the car thing and the pictures, I'm a total slob.

Hatchbacks are awesome for storage, I agree totally with mehastings. I have about thirty books in the back of my car and the whole thing is a mess. Empty pop bottles, food wrappers, the smell of cigars.....it would make a person with cleanliness issues go through great anxiety.

My car is sort of a mess right now, but mainly because it is winter and standing out in the freezing cold does not appeal to me on a regular basis. Normally, though, it is tidy. I only have a little car anyways, so no large scale room for books. Generally if I run out of book space I will sort through my books to make more room, as to get rid of the ones that I don't want. But, don't think me a neat freak, if anything is clean for me it is usually only my book shelves.

This is a fabulous thread... I don't have pics of all my "piles" but I will have to do so. We have books in every room of the house.

And, I liked from the pics above, that the Dr Laura book was in the "junk" pile :D Just a personal thing...

I don't even drive and I have books everywhere in my husband's car, in the footwell of the front passenger seat, the glove compartment, the door, the baskseats and tons more in bags in the boot, because I'm always borrowing books from college mates, and lending them out, and I just leave them in the car for a while until it's time to tidy them out! Must have at least twenty books in the car, including three that I want to have read yesterday if possible that I just can't be bothered to go and hunt for :D

I have books all over the place, and it drives me nuts! I want to consolidate them all into one room. The Problem? Which room? There isn't an available room that would be able to be converted. aaarrggghhhhh!!! The so called "office/computer room" doesn't have enough wall space, besides one wall is already books..... And there are 4 large bookcases in the living room, 2 large ones and 2 small ones in the upper hallway, two medium bookcases in an upstairs bedroom, plus about 6 stacks here in the office...!! /sigh/ And then theres Nabokov..... /double sigh/ :D Even the new shelves I've bought, which are problematic to install might not be enough for the stacks.... Oh Well, there are worse fates. :p :D

but none in the car! (for a wonder!)

Oh, absolutely. I got it in a box of books from my mother who said "there's some real garbage in this one from one of your cousins. If you don't know anyone who wants it you can use it for a campfire". I never even opened it as Dr Laura and I don't see eye to eye on anything and never will.

I am not alone!! Yay...

mehastings - I never put my name in my books as I find that akin to defiling them. I don't have a problem with other people doing it, don't get me wrong. It's just that I'd NEVER write in a book, put a stamp on a book, put a sticker on a book, etc.

I guess that means that if anyone ever stole any of my books worth money I'd never be able to prove them mine.

Once again, to me, marking a book is like tattooing a child with your name on it.

I am shuddering.

Maybe I need help.

They do look better without tattoos, but my husband and I read so many books that we have to sign our names and date we finished them so we won't read them again for a long long time:)

yeah, and I try to read the books he's already read so I can "dog ear" the pages to mark my spot:D I get beaten when I don't use a book marker.

You guys have such order...well most of you :p ...I only have one bookcase, I need to get another one. So my books are in three different parts of my house: upstairs in the study room and downstairs in two cases under the TV section. I'll post the pics tomorrow when I get home so you guys see the mess.

mrkgnao - cute cat :)
