Last year I was at my grandparents holiday house and Ive found a book from Stephen King , that was a compilation of stories , that had one , called The Stand , it was an amazing story , but very short..

Yes, that is the full book. It's my favorite Stephen King story, aside from Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.

I discovered that the name of the story that Ive found in the book .. was Night Surf..

Now I'll see if I discover an Portuguese version if I cant .. I'll finally start reading in english xb
 
I am bookmarking this thread, I love these types of books. The Newsflesh series by Mira Grant is great (rebuilding after zombie outbreak), Without Warning and After America by John Birmingham (All people on Continental US wiped out by mysterious force) is good, finished the first one, still haven't started the second. The Wingman series by Mack Maloney is one of my favorite. I have read through them many times.

I really liked, The Age of Miracles, by Karen Thompson Walker, too. I will warn you though that it has pretty mixed reviews.

Hi Martin, hope I'm not infringing any rules here but ARIA: Left Luggage is apocalyptic and post apocalyptic with an original concept. It won the Best SF novel of 2012 award at the Preditors & Editors Poll (top out of 86 entries) and there's a youtube vid trailer here

Roger Zelazney - Damnation Alley.
A post apocalyptic Earth covered in nuclear trash. One man decides to drive through the Alley of the title with important cargo. 'Don't' watch the film it is terrible, but the book is super as is the song performed by Hawkwind.
 
Anything by David Moody. Trust is particularly good. A nice combination of science fiction and horror with grounded characters and deft strokes of realism.

It's apocalyptic in that infectious amnesia diffuses from the opening of a case from space and within months society breaks down - well, wouldn't you? 5 * reviews including "Endorsed by Mike Resnick ARIA is only for readers desiring a witty, original gem of a story." On Kindle, and paperback.
