This is weird. I know it's just an exercise, but I wouldn't use the word in that context - it sounds clumsy. For example in the above sentence I would use something like 'lenient', or say "Jim's parents are more strict than mine". Obviously this doesn't help as you still need to do the exercise, but I'm just baffled by the sentence.
(Baffled is an awesome word - I think it's been years since I used it!)
