Country ended in the '80s. Now it's just pop/rock with a twangy guitar and nasal singer.

Absolutely..you know something's wrong when they have to create an oldies station for country music. I don't care much for 'Today's Country'..sounds too much like twangy pop.

I’m a big lover of real country, and today’s stuff isn’t it. I mean, boot scoot’n booty? Really? I’ll take me some Waylon and Willie, some Eddie Rabbit, a little Crystal Gale, maybe Hoyt Axton; what I will not do, is listen to rock and roll disguised as backwoods crap. :D

We have an AM station around here that plays only classic country, and I can sing along with a good 80% of it, even to this day. What happened to couples who got drunk, came home, danced and then made love? What’s wrong with that? Why they gotta ‘boogie’ today? :p

Ah, another despiser of 'Disco Honky-Tonk:flowers: Speaking of boot scootin' boogie, have you heard some of Ronnie Dunn's solo work? He's made some songs that have something to say. He should perhaps listen to Roger Miller's catalog though..now there was somebody with something to say...

(Sorry, couldn't find a good live version with the whole band.)

I find it deliciously ironic that this "altCountry" band is more true to traditional Country than the modern Jingoistic pop stuff.

One of my sons has a very low tolerance to country, but loves a lot of Indie/folk music. Some of what he plays sounds pretty danged closed to country to me..We laugh about it.

PS: listening to Jay Farrar now.. what a great voice!

Dunno.

The Ramones, Sex pistols, Black Flag, Bob Dylan, Dinosaur Jr., Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Carter Family, Leadbelly, Gram Parsons, The Soft Boys, The Louvin Brothers, Texas Tornados, and The Stooges are/were their influences. Oh, and Woody Guthrie. Jay Farrar worships the man and has a custom made guitar detailed with artifacts found at Guthrie's boyhood home in Okemah.
