Yes I really loved this book. It's a bit reminiscent of The Good Earth - Pearl Buck. I am also very interested in the history of Kashmir/India/Pakistan and the various political, religious and social conflicts ongoing there.

I think you'll enjoy it.

Thanks Abecedarius, I'll move it up towards the top of the pile!

Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games. Have to say I'm pretty impressed so far. Sure, it's basically equal parts The Running Man and Battle Royale with a bit of Buffy sprinkled on top, but those are some pretty good things to be influenced by. :star4: for what it is.

Recently finished the Giller Prize winner, The Sentimentalists by Johanna Skibsrud.

I give it 3 1/2 stars mainly because of the slow and rather muddled beginning.

What is skimped?

"skim" is a better word, but since I was listening to the audio book perhaps that wasn't really correct either. It's much harder to "skim through" an audio book than an printed book, one of the disadvantages of listening to audio book.

Love in the Time of Cholera, Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Thought provoking. An interesting mix of disgust and fascination with this Humbert Humbert like character and his 50 year destructive obsession with Fermina Diaz.

Aaah, thank you. That's what I thought you meant. I tend to start skimming when I'm losing interest in a book.

Just finished Kafka On The Shore by Murakami - an excellent read, 4.5 stars.

Just finished Nora Roberts 'Montana Sky', I have read alot of her books, but I think this is the best book I have ever read. I ordered the DVD this morning from Amazon, to see if it is the same, hopefully it is.

Practicing History: Selected Essays by Barbara W. Tuchman 2/5
Communism: A History by Richard Pipes 3/5
The 10 Commandments of Money by Liz Weston 3/5
The English Novel (Great Courses serious by the teaching company) 4/5
Best of Women's Short Stories Vol. 2 2/5

Forgot this one. Dexter in the Dark (the third in the series) 3/5. Not as good as the previous 2 in the series, especially the second one.

Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami. I loved this even more than Hard-Boiled Wonderland. It was in turns enigmatic, sad, disheartening and hopeful.
