Recently Purchased/Borrowed

I broke down and Bought Angels and Demons. I have to see what everyone is all excited about. My brother has read all of Brown's books and says they are great (not that his reading taste is all that fab to begin with). I refuse to buy Da Vinci Code as it is still in HB (don't like paying $$$ for books I know will soon be MM and don't care for HB anyway), so I thought I would try A & D instead.

I also managed to get My Sister's Keeper, Holy Fools and The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters all in hardcover for $5 each at my book store because they are "hurt". I can't see any damage though, so I'm beyond thrilled.

Edited because I pressed the submit button by accident without finishing the post. Doh.

I shouldn't really need to buy any new books for a few months after that lot tbh. I've already got about 4 new books that I haven't read & my Dad has loads of books that I'll be borrowing :D

Yes! Do check out 100 years of Solitude. It's a masterpiece. Difficult, but rewarding :)

Shadow of the wind is a novel I am really interested in reading. It sounds like my kind of thing. An added bonus is that I have been to Barcelona so I hope there might be some places in the book that I can recognise! :)
 
I did want to get Veronika by Coelho, Wabbit. Do let me know what you think of it.

The most recent one I got: Gardens of the Moon, Steven Erikson. Looks delicious. However, I've been found out to have bought too many books the past week, so am in a little spot of trouble. :D

TIMEQUAKE by Kurt Vonnegut
I loved Slaughterhouse 5 so I thought I needed to read some more by Vonnegut.

SOPHIE'S WORLD by Jostein Gaarder
I just need to see what this book is all about. It better be good...

Now if they would just arrive soon.

Just picked up All He Ever Wanted by Anita Shreve and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

I too just finished The Shadow of the Wind and totally agree with Mehastings....it's a great book.

Cool- that's always a good one to add to any collection! I also picked up another copy of that recently because my other poor old copy had completely fallen apart! It was a 196? edition I bought used, and the pages just fell out over time. Now I have a sturdy hardback copy, which is good,since that is one that people like to borrow. :)

I just bought 'The Haunted Bookshop' by Christopher Morley, written in 1919-anyone heard of this or read it?

Also 'Black Voices-An Anthology of Afro-American Literature' (1968). It seems to be an excellent combination of fiction, poems, autobiographies and essays from the 1800's-1960's. The first story is about a book club and was quite funny!

These only cost 25 cents each at a rummage sale! :D
 
Hmm... I hardly buy hardcover books. One, they don't fit mu bydget and two, the craze here is for paperbacks. Somehow, people here don't buy hardback copies!

So, I bought a paperback! I wanted that particular edition (don't remember the year) which was all black and a a bird drawn in red!

I was finding it hard to get this particular edition. So, the moment I saw it, I grabbed it :D

Hey! I was editing my post while you were writing this one!

New hardcovers dont fit my budget either! I guess I should have added that I got it used for 50 cents. That's the only way hardcovers usually make it into my collection-unless I'm lucky enough to find a 50-75% off clearance sale at Waldenbooks. :)
