I thought Tayeb Salih's name looked familiar. Seasons of Migration to the North sounds much better than The Wedding of Zein and Other Stories. I didn't care for that one at all. I added Seasons to my wish list.

I couldn't find Beautiful Antonio in English at Amazon US, do you have a synopsis?

Nice haul!

Nope. Actually it is my first Umberto Eco novel. What made think I had that one already?
I thought you'd posted a cover to it already, as you do. Must have been someone else.

Don't forget you can always go to another Amazon (by changing .com to .co.uk ;) ) if you just want an overview. But, just for you, here's the blurb from the back of the book:

As the most handsome man in Catania, Antonio Magnano has women falling at his feet - he is the envy of all the town's men. But his early years of connubial bliss with Barbara Puglisi, the virginal daughter of a prominent member of the local bourgeoisie, are rudely shattered by a terrible rumour. It is not that Antonio is proving to be a husband with a roving eye - in the macho, burgeoning Fascist Empire that would be only right and proper - but that from the start he has failed to perform. The resulting scandal engullfs the whole town, and family honour is at stake.

Both comical and heartbreaking, Beautiful Antonio is a charming yet savagely ironic portrait of sexual attitudes and provincial life.

Thanks for the blurb. I thought it must be a amazonuk thing..looks like a good book too. I might have to check the ILL stacks next. Who knows, somebody in Kansas might have heard of it. It could happen!

It's out of print in America, but you can get it from the Amazon Marketplace under it's original Italian name, Bell' Antonio. It's the same translation.
Now, I saw those links, but was in a hurry. I figured they were all the orginal language. I goofed once with an ILL that way, and got the nicest little book written in Russian. I'll pay attention this time:p

I recently purchased Insomnia by Stephen King at the local used book store....Has anyone read this book? I would love some opinions, as I am finding it kind of weird in parts.

You will probably like it, it is a good read and a long one. The characters are great, almost all of the main characters are older, but some of the parts have me scratching my head. Parts go into a weird fantasy type world, you'll have to let me know when you are reading it.

I also recently purchased a few of Jack Ketchum's books, The Girl Next Door, The Lost, and two others. I heard about them on this site.

My little second-hand haul of the day:

The Robber Bride - Margaret Atwood (£0.95)
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee (£1.00)
Fingersmith - Sarah Waters (£1.59)
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte (£1.25, the exact edition I was looking for for my university course)
Wilderness Tips - Margaret Atwood (£2.50)
The New Tony Blair New New Labour Joke Book (£1.00, a little out-dated now perhaps)
Mary, Mary - James Patterson (£2.00)
Gilead - Marilynne Robinson (£0.79)

:D

I just picked up Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller today on my dinner break at work. It's made its way to the top of my TBR list!
