Recommendations for my 11 year old little brother.

Don't get the wrong idea. This kid is nuts. a few years ago he snuck into my room, stole fight club, read it, and wrote his 4th grade book report on it.

the teacher was not pleased.
especially because my brother made a building (out of clay) for "visual aid," and one of his friends (beforehand) started pretending it was a big penis and making certain hand motions up and down it...
anyway the teacher somehow blamed my brother.

ANYWAY -

he reads a lot of adult fantasy. he likes those books about dragons flying all over the place... i forget the names... it's a series... also another recent series about knights and kings and... i dont remember... the beginning of the first one this group of people go into this forest and there are like scary things there, then they come back and someone gets hung...

thats all i remember...
he likes harry potter...
anyway, nothing toooo innappropriate, but he can handle blood and guts like a true american kid.

so - any suggestions?

oh - he also likes frank miller graphic novels when the parents will let him get his hands on them. just nothing too sexually explicit i guess, and nothing that's too overwhelming thematically either.

thanks a lot :)

Jane Lindskold
Through Wolf's Eyes 6 book series
I've read the first 5 of those and liked them. I don't remember any sex scenes or anything ultra violent. It has magic and smart animals but not dragons really or elves and crap.

Dragon Riders of Pern series
Lots of dragons and lots 20+ books. There is some sex and I'm not sure I'd want a 4th grader reading some those scenes. Some are kind of violent.

Elven Bane series by I think Lacky
Elves, humans, and dragons oh my. There is some sex in these but I don't remember them being all that bad. Been awhile since I read them though.

Eragon
If he somehow hasn't read those I'm sure he would like them.

His Dark Materials series
Just read the fist book The Golden Compass and liked it.

There is also the Sword of Ice and Fire series and LOTR but both of those maybe a bit heavy for 4th graders.

hey thanks a lot. he was in 4th when he read fight club, but he's in 6th grade now (youngest in his class though).

anyway, he liked eragon, so I'll check into the other books you recommended. thanks a lot!

David Eddings Belgarion series is really good i read thm at about the same age as your brother they weer great far better than his more recent series.

Im sure he has already but if he hasnt he should read Eldest the sequel to Eragon. The next book of the trilogy is Brisingr which is coming out September this year.

Im not sure he may be a bit old for it or maybe hes already read it but i remember reading Deltora Quest which includes dragons... There are three series of it.

Hungry City Chronicles by Philip Reeve
The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud

Also any book by Walter Moers or Terry Pratchett.

Um...really? Eragon is...really, really, really bad...I don't know who thought that pile of cat barf deserved a movie adaptation...

I'll agree to the first two suggestions but don't you think Sandman is better enjoyed in the original graphic novel form?
 I'm confused. I was/am suggesting the graphic novels...
The link is for the first volume of The Sandman series (first of ten - unless you count Endless Nights, then it's the first of eleven)...

You're right. I don't know what I was smoking when I posted that.

I have my eyes on the boxed set. A signed one. :D

The boxed set? Do you mean the Absolute edition? That's what I want. But it's the entire series in four volumes with "remastered" colors.

Ooh, to have it signed. That would be wonderful. You're still on MySpace, right? There's a pic of me with Neil Gaiman. ;)

That's the one I mean! As with you, I'm not sure I like the remastered colors. Just like the current printings of the graphic novels are on that nice slick paper and new colors. I prefer the older, original style on the other paper.
