I have recently been reading a lot of Douglas Adams' books, and I find them to be very entertaining and well-written. Can anyone give me any suggestions about similar authors/books? Thanks in advance! :D

Try reading some Michael Marshall Smith. I have just read Only Forward, and the first half of the book seemed just like a Douglas Adams for the next generation. I couldn't comment on his others, but Martin certainly likes them, and his style is highly amusing.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is the most similar to Douglas Adams' books... i think anyway... very fun... and with his type of humor

Noooooooooooooo. You shouldn't speak of the dead. :p

There's Robert Rankin and Tom Holt. Neither one has exactly the same style, but I think when it comes to Douglas Adams that's asking the impossible anyway. The man was in a class of his own.

Robert Rankin is a bit of an acquired taste. His books are full of running gags, so if you start off with the wrong ones you'll hate him. Start off with the Antipope and work your way through the Brentford books.

Tom Holt is a bit hit and miss. Some of his books are hilarious, and others are completely surreal and read a lot like being hit in the face with a fish. A Portable Door is a nice safe one to start off with.

Both authors specialise in Far Fetched Fiction. Completely ridiculous situations resolved in completely ridiculous ways.

The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy was better in its original form as a radio series anyway. You know it to be true. (Adams is still one of my favourite authors, don't get me wrong.)
