Running out of room!

I've got some many books now that I've ran out of room to keep them all. There are books all over the house in my bedroom, living room and kitchen, my parents keep telling me to put them up in my bedroom but I can't. What am I meant to do? They wont buy me any shelves because my room has just been redecorated and they don't want to destroy the walls so soon. Crazy right?

Any ideas for storage would be great.
Also the fact that I share my room with my sister doesn't help, she is taking up most of the room and isn't leaving any for me. What should I do?:shifty:
 
I'm guessing you're stuck in a room with your sister because you're not old enough to move out, in which case your options are limited. I'd suggest one (or more) of the following:

1 - Pack 'em into boxes, and store them in the garage.
2 - Pack the ones you've read into boxes, and give them away to charity. Books are only things, and things are not important once they're used.
3 - Throw away your clothes and store your books in your wardrobe.
4 - Throw away your sister's clothes and store your books in her wardrobe.
5 - Tape a line down the middle of the room, and insist she keeps her stuff on her side of the line.
6 - Buy a free standing bookshelf.

Bookworm problem!

Offer favors for allowing the bookshelves. Are there chores or something they want done? Learn the art of compromise.
 
Stack them on the floor. Build a wall to separate your side of the room from your sister's. If the door is on your side, charge her a toll. Use the money to buy smaller bookcases that can fit in your room.
 
Thanks for the ideas guys. I especially like the idea of charging her toll money but unfortunately the door is on my sisters side of the room.

And this is a good problem to see a young person have to deal with. ;)
 
I once stacked a bunch of books into a cube in front of the couch, put a glass top over them and called them a cocktail table.
 
Stack the books all the way to the ceiling and declare it to be a load-bearing column.
