S. M. Sterling: Marching Through Georgia

This is an 'alternative history' fantasy set in the middle of the 20th century.
The confederate forces that lost the American civil war have fled across the Atlantic to South Africa and there started just as they were in the American south, calling themselves the Draka (after Francis Drake).
WWII has started and the Draka decide to get involved, the premise of the book is how their involvement changes the outcome of the war.
Strong characters and extremely vivid battle scenes make this a real page turner, throughly recommend it. I would say more but don't want to spoil it for anyone deciding to read it.
Have you read it?
What did you think?

Never heard of it, but as a fan of Sterling's Change series, I will add this one to my list.

PS: I see I am three titles behind on the Change series..must catch up!

What is the Change series about?
Yes, you must read Marching Through Georgia.

Modern day Nantucket is swooped back to the Bronze Age..first three books deal with that aspect of The Change; rest of the series centers on how that change affects the world left behind. Suddenly, all modern technology and weapons quit working..

It sounds intriguing, I will investigate, many thanks.

Ordered 'Island in the Sea of Time' from Amazon.

It has arrived and is next on my read pile.

Its not a bad book, although I have some problems with his take on the historical changes and how the world would develop because of them. That being said the first book is really pretty good. I didn't really like books 2 or 3 as much, but if you stick with it, book 4 is really a treat.

The changes are 'the' point.

Your right, they are. But what comes from that change has to make sense. The direction history changes in the Drakon series I just don't buy.
