Sales of bodice-ripping e-books soar as women use digital readers to hide their romantic novels.

New figures from market researchers Nielsen BookScan show digital sales of the genre have overtaken print copies for the first time – which the gadget users can read without anyone else knowing.

I don't think only women are doing this.

I wouldn't be ashamed to be seen reading a Nora Roberts novel. I have been seen reading Danielle Steel in the break room before my shift at work, even if that's not exactly a bodice-ripper.

New technology, old story.

A long long time ago I read someplace that the genre sprouted and flourished as soon as print could be put to paper. And, now that I think about it, probably earlier, just as a guess.
