San Francisco rejects USS Iowa

Robert, what freedom are you referring to?

You live in the UK, right. So you should understand what was temporarily lost in WW1 & WWII.

How about freedom of the seas, freedom of world commerce, freedom of choice, suffrage, freedom of religion, freedom to own property. Things we all take for granted, but for which someone had to pay the price.

Yes, I do.

Interestingly, the only people that harp on about freedom are those up-your-nose flag waving Republicans you have over there. The people have always been free and the only ones who should be pleased are those who were, or whose ancestors were, slaves.

These are all fine although there needs, also, to be a level of respect for them. Regarding the "freedom of religion" your country would do much better to have freedom from religion. As for the world commerce, it's hardly freedom if you put imbargos and high taxes on imports to promote your own industried and limit your citizens' choice.

I don't want to get into any big argument as this thread will then get locked but that's just my response and I'll stay out of this. I don't think you need a ship to remember the past.

Our freedom of, and from religion is just fine, thanks.

Whether you agree with how countries engage free trade, it’s nice to know that they have the choice.

"Bataan death marches," "Rape(s) of Nanking," and other sickening events which were essentially killings for sport on the part of the Japanese Imperial army.

So sickening that the US decided to imitate them through-out the vietnam fiasco...

Once again, I would place the Iowa controversy within it's true perspective. The ship was very important in WWII and I fail to see why anyone would want to honor our efforts there.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you might want to edit that sentence

I think Zolipara was suggesting something along these lines:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I see now. Is it bad if around noon you are still in a befuddled, stupor?
