Toby was a vicious robotic dog (a Ripper) that killed Halo's flatmate Brinna, became infatuated with Halo and then tried to kill her! I would post a picture, but I can't find one. Ring any bells?

Obviously nothing like this Toby, which, as far as I can gather, appears to be a cute bunny rabbit.

Hmmm yeah, it's comming back to me a little. Not the story. I hardly remember it Apart from she started out on that spaceship ( the hoop? )

I kinda get an image in my mind of that dog now

The Hoop was a vast floating dumping-ground for the unemployed ("Increased Leisure Citizens") which was tethered to Manhattan. It was where Halo lived before she got the job as a hostess on the ship.
