Slightly odd question...

Well, maybe not too odd considering this a book forum:)

I've been searching for information about a book that was found in our addict when we bought our house.

It's a copy of Dante's Inferno from I believe 1880. The book first caught my eye because it has a large golden Swastika printed on the front.

The second pages reads as follows:

Translated by The Rev. H. F. Cary, A.M.

New York: American Book Exchange, Tribune Building. 1880.

Printed by Thomas Holdman, Cor. Centre & White Sts., New York.

I'd really like to know more about this copy and if it has any value. I've seem to have found every variation of this book except this one.

Please, if any of you book aficionados have any info or could direct me to someone that might!!

Going price seems to be around $20:

Here is an interesting blurb of that book: The Literary World - Google Book Search

The American Book Exchange is pushing steadily forward with its work of furnishing usable editions of the best books at the lowest prices. Among the latest additions to its list are Gary's translation of Dante's Divine Comedy, entitled here The Vision ; the most highly finished, perhaps, of the earlier English versions. The book should not, however, have been labeled on the cover " Dante's Works," as it is only one of his works which it contains. The binding is half Russia. [80 cents.]

Wow, that's surprising. I had posted on another forum as well earlier today and was offered $500.00 by one person and told that it had a value of around $600.00 by another!

God I'm confused:confused:

It's terrible, the one hundred year old books that I have are also being sold for 6 dollars.
