How did you like it? I saw an interview with him a month or so ago and it sounded interesting.
It was very easy to read - I like non-fiction history, but sometimes it takes a lot of concentration - 1776 was quite different. McCullough relies on quotes quite heavily, but they flow with the text in a really nice way, they actually moved the story along, instead of obstructing it (as quotes can sometimes do).
Not being American, my American history is pretty rusty, so for me the book was filled with moments of "oh, that's how that fits in!"
I came away with 2 overall impressions. #1 - how did the Americans ever win the Revolution? and #2 - the British got what they deserved for taking things for granted.
It certainly wasn't a "rah-rah" look at Washington - it was quite critical of hime in places.
