Solved - Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix

I read a book when I was younger and I don't remember the name of it. I remember it was part of a series. It was about... I think families weren't allowed to have more than 2 children or something, and if they did they would get in trouble, and it's about a family that has a 3rd I think and he has to hide, and then he meets a 12 year old girl I think, and at the end... (spoilers coming...) they maybe try to change the government or how it works or go to a protest or something and the girl gets killed and it was extremely extremely sad and I remember trying to read the next one but couldn't because I thought there was no point since the girl was gone and she was such an integral part of the first one. Oh but the second book in the series (I remember the beginning before I stopped reading) the boy is at boarding school I think... I don't know... The book is something like the hidden, or the others, or something... Anyone know? It's like young adult fiction...

Haha yeah. Sorry this is a complete waste of a thread. After thinking about it so much while I was writing the thread I decided to enter "the hidden" or something like that into amazon and sure enough I found the book. (more spoilers coming up now)... I don't know if I'd think it was good now but it was absolutely devasting when I read it at a pretty young age. I think that may have been the first book I'd ever read that had a really sad ending, and I couldn't believe it actually happened, and was waiting for the girl to come back to life somehow, or for it to be a trick. But it wasn't. I guess that's why I still remember it.
