Songs Stuck In Your Head

Poison
Alice Cooper

Your cruel deep eyes
your blood, like ice
One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill...

I wanna love you but I better not touch (don? touch)
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much (too much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You?e poison, running through my veins
You're poison
I don? wanna break these chains

Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I? caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace, on sweat....

I hear you calling and it? needles and pins (and pins)
I wanna hurt you just to hear you screaming my name
Don? wanna touch you but you?e under my skin (deep in)
I wanna kiss you but your lips are venomous poison
You?e poison, running through my veins
You're poison
I don? wanna break these chains
Poison...

One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill...

I wanna love you but I better not touch (don? touch)
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much (to much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You?e poison, running through my veins
You're poison
I don? wanna break these chains
Poison (Poi-son....)

I wanna love you but I better not touch (don? touch)
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much (too much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
Yeah....
Well I don? wanna break these chains
Poison
Runnin deep inside my veins
Burnin deep inside my brain
Poison
and I don? wanna break these chains

This is such an amazing song

The wife and I caught Hitchhiker's Guide on DVD the other night and ever since I've had the title song -- So Long and Thanks for all the Fish -- coming up at very inopportune times.

You can hear and view a flash of it here if you must. Consider yourself warned.

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear?

You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that
grow around you

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

The world’s about to be destroyed
There’s no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve

Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your
pregnant women

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

(yeah)

and on and on and . . .

For some reason I started thinking of Ramblin Man while driving home from town this afternoon. Now I want to travel

Everybody sing along now:

[chorus]
Lord, I was born a ramblin’ man,
Tryin’ to make a livin’ and doin’ the best I can.
And when it’s time for leavin’,
I hope you’ll understand,
That I was born a ramblin’ man.

Well my father was a gambler down in georgia,
He wound up on the wrong end of a gun.
And I was born in the back seat of a greyhound bus
Rollin’ down highway 41.

Chorus

I’m on my way to new orleans this mornin’,
Leaving out of nashville, tennessee,
They’re always having a good time down on the bayou,
Lord, them delta women think the world of me.

Chorus

[repeat and fade]
Lord, I was born a ramblin’ man.

Gawd, someone shoot that idea before it lodges in my head.

Tee Hee...BANG!

How about:

If she comes or if she goes,
It doesn't matter anymore,
Cause I'm ridin' my thumb to Mexico.

Ridin' my thumb to Mexico
It don't matter when or how I go.
I'll ride this thumb til I see her again,
So I'm ridin' my thumb to Mexico.

Well, the reason why she left me
Is not the reason that I'm here.
I'm a travlin' kind of man,
Just need a change of atmosphere.

If there's any place I haven't been at all,
That's where I'll go.
So I'm ridin' my thumb to Mexico.

Ridin' my thumb to Mexico
It don't matter when or how I go.
I'll ride this thumb til I see her again,
So I'm ridin' my thumb to Mexico.

Movin' to the country, gonna eat me a lot of peaches...

Peaches come in a can
They were put there by a man
In a factory downtown

If I had my little way
I'd eat peaches every day... :D

Ever seen the video for that? Ninjas jump out and attack the band.

Watching Dave Matthews and Friends live online tonight. Dodo will be in my head for the next three days. But in a really good way.

Once upon a time
When the world was just a pancake
Fears would arise
That if you went too far, you'd fall

But with the
Passing of time
It all became more of a ball
We're as sure of that
As we all once were when the world was flat

So I wonder this
As life billows smoke inside my head
This little game
When I think it should

Why would you play by the rules?
Who did, you did, you
Who did, you did, you

Sink The Bismark
Johnny Horton

[Written by Johnny Horton and Tilman Franks]

In May of nineteen forty-one the war had just begun
The Germans had the biggest ship that had the biggest guns
The Bismark was the fastest ship that ever sailed the seas
On her deck were guns as big as steers and shells as big as trees

Out of the cold and foggy night came the British ship the Hood
And evry British seaman, he knew and understood
They had to sink the Bismark, the terror of the sea
Stop those guns as big as steers and those shells as big as trees

We'll find that German battleship thats makin' such a fuss
We gotta sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us
Hit the decks a-runnin' boys and spin those guns around
When we find the Bismark we gotta cut her down

The Hood found the Bismark and on that fatal day
The Bismark started firin' fifteen miles away
We gotta sink the Bismark was the battle sound
But when the smoke had cleared away
The mighty Hood went down

For six long days and weary nights they tried to find her trail
Churchill told the people "Put ev'ry ship a-sail"
'Cause somewhere on that ocean I know she's gotta be
We gotta sink the Bismark to the bottom of the sea

We'll find that German battleship thats makin' such a fuss
We gotta sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us
Hit the decks a-runnin' boys and spin those guns around
When we find the Bismark we gotta cut her down

The fog was gone on the seventh day and they saw the mornin' sun
Ten hours away from homeland the Bismark made its' run
The admiral of the British fleet said "Turn those bows around"
We found that German battleship and we're gonna cut her down

The British guns were aimed and the shells were comin' fast
The first shell hit the Bismark, they knew she couldn't last
That mighty German battleship is just a memory
"Sink the Bismark" was the battle cry that shook the seven seas

We found that German battleship was makin' such a fuss
We had to sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us
We hit the decks a-runnin' and we spun those guns around
Yeah, we found the mighty Bismark and then we cut her down

We found that German battleship was makin' such a fuss
We had to sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us
We hit the decks a-runnin' and we spun those guns around
We found the mighty Bismark and then we cut her down

How about this one:

We're going on a trip
In our favorite rocket ship
Zooming though the sky
Little Einsteins

Climb aboard
We're ready to explore
There's so much to find
Little Einsteins

We're going on a mission
Start the countdown
Everyone to Rocket
Rev it up now

We're going on a trip
In our favorite rocket ship
Zooming though the sky
Little Einsteins

Climb aboard
We're ready to explore
There's so much to find
Little Einsteins

Come on, let's go
Little Einsteins
We need you!
Little Einsteins
Yeah!!!

This is the theme song of my youngest's favorite show, Little Einsteins. I guess I could have worse songs stuck in my head

Another post has reminded me of Johnny Horton and now I am thinking of "North To Alaska:

Big Sam left Seattle in the year of ninety-two
With George Pratt his partner and brother Billy too
They crossed the Yukon river and they found the bonanza gold
Below that old white mountain
Just a little south-east of Nome

Sam crossed the Majestic mountains to the valleys far below
He talked to his team of huskies
As he mushed on through the snow
With the northen lights a-runnin wild
In the land of the midnight sun
Yes Sam McCord was a mighty man
In the year of nineteen-one

Where the river is windin big nuggets theyre findin
North to Alaska go north the rush is on
North to Alaska go north the rush is on

George turns to Sam with his gold in his hand
Said Sam youre lookin at a lonely lonely man
Id trade all the gold thats buried in this land
For one small band of gold to place on sweet little Jennys hand

Cause a man needs a woman to love him all the time
Remember Sam a true love is so hard to find
Id build for my Jenny a honeymoon home
Below that old white mountain
Just a little south-east of Nome

Where the river is windin big nuggets theyre findin
North to Alaska go north the rush is on
North to Alaska go north the rush is on

I was listening to one of my CD's from the Time Life Rock'n Roll Series this morning and this was one of the songs that stuck in my noggin. :)

Maybellene, why can't you be true
Oh Maybellene , why can't you be true
You've started back doin' the things you used to do

As I was motivatin' over the hill
I saw Mabellene in a Coup de Ville
A Cadillac arollin' on the open road
Nothin' will outrun my V8 Ford
The Cadillac doin' about ninety-five
She's bumper to bumper, rollin' side by side
Maybellene

The sea adventure novel I just finished has a couple of songs floating around in my head. First, given the whaling theme:

Blow ye winds of morning
And blow ye winds Hi Ho
Clear away your running gears
And blow ye winds hi ho

Then, because the author went to great lengths to dispell any glamorized notions about the whaling trade(or sea life in general during the War of 1812), I began to think of this John Denver song:

And you say that the battle is over
And you say that the war is all done
Go tell it to those
With the wind in their nose
Who run from the sound of the gun

And write it on the sides
Of the great whaling ships
Or on ice floes where conscience is tossed
With the wind in their eyes
It is they who must die
And it’s we who must measure the loss

And you say that the battle is over
And finally the world is at peace
You mean no one is dying
And mothers don’t weep
Or it’s not in the papers at least

There are those who would deal
In the darkness of life
There are those who would tear down the sun
And most men are ruthless
But some will still weep
When the gifts we were given are gone

Now the blame cannot fall
On the heads of a few
It’s become such a part of the race
It’s eternally tragic
That that which is magic
Be killed at the end of the glorious chase

From young seals to great whales
From waters to wood
They will fall just like weeds in the wind
With fur coats and perfumes
And trophies on walls
What a hell of a race to call men

And you say that the battle is over
And you say that the war is all done
Go tell it to those
With the wind in their nose
Who run from the sound of the gun

And write it on the sides
Of the great whaling ships
Or on ice floes where conscience is tossed
With the wind in their eyes
It is they who must die
And it’s we who must measure the loss
With the wind in their eyes
It is they who must die
And it’s we who must measure the cost

Words and Music by David Mallett

Crazy huh?

Last night on "king of queens" (rerun), they played the Alvin & the Chipmunks Christmas song over and over and over. So this morning, I woke up with the bit about wanting a hula hoop stuck in my head.

HELL

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Behold, the Lamb of God
Who takes away our sin
Behold the Lamb of God
The life and light of men
Behold the Lamb of God
Who died and rose again
Behold the Lamb of God who comes
To take away our sin

Broken hearts--behold our broken hearts
Fallen far--we need you
Behold the Lamb of God

Chorus

Son of God--Emmanuel
Son of Man--we need you
Behold the Lamb
The hope of man
Behold the Lamb of God

Now if I could just get the sound to work on my media player, I could hear Andrew Peterson for real.
