Stephen King / Dark Tower Comics!

There Is A God

possibly king's best:

the dark tower series. i certainly agree that a graphical standpoint can tell a whole different yarn altogether.

such as alan moore's watchmen and v for vendetta[/I]

RE: to AquaBlue in Stephen King thread

So, from February to August, I'd been going to the comic book store collecting them.
Let me tell you... I was pretty damn disappointed.
I was looking forward to something new, something I hadn't read before in the comic... like
what the hell happened at Jericho Hill?!?!
But instead... I got an abridged retelling of DT IV.

But after the comic part, what's truly amazing is Robin Furth's (author of the Dark Tower Concordance) history of Roland and his world. It's fantastic. When y'all get the graphic novel, that will be the best thing in there.

But of course the artwork is amazing.
Anyway, I look forward to the 2nd cycle of the Dark Tower comics coming around again this February (2008). Hopefully it'll answer some questions like the one I mentioned above.

I've been lazy and haven't made it to the comic book store yet to get the last few comics. I thought they were nice, but guess I should've just waited for the graphic novel to come out. Those comics just don't last long enough.

Right on Lies, Lenny... I should've just waited for the collection. It's going to start up again this next Feb. but I won't collect them this time.

Stephen King’s The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born

For fans of King’s popular Dark Tower series, and most especially for those who truly loved the forth installment, Wizard and Glass (WAG), this graphic novel is a real treat! In reality it is a carbon copy of WAG yet it is dappled with additional (detailed) insights not found in the series. The artwork is totally out-of-this-world! Beautiful illustrations throughout make it a real joy to experience from cover to cover. The hardback volume includes all of the seven previously released graphic additions of the set.

For me the graphic novel was more of a review of WAG…but to see the graphics made me glad to discover that my mental imagery of the original story translated nicely with the illustrations in the book. Overall it was a thrill to read this special edition. I totally recommend it to all fans of the Dark Tower series. For those unfamiliar with the series, I would recommend reading at least through the fourth book in the series before purchasing the graphic novel.

I give Stephen King’s The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born 4/5 stars.

The Robin Furth stuff is not in the collected hardback.:(
That sucks because I really felt that was the best thing in the individual comics.

I'm glad to see someone liked it. Like I said earlier, I'm more interested in the next Marvel installment of The Dark Tower.

Lenny, let me know if there's anything interesting in the foreword and afterword.

Also in the individual comics, there's a transcript of panel discussion with everyone that worked on the comic including Stephen King.

The Dark Tower: The Long Road Home

I think that this 5 issue limited series is what we DT fans have been waiting for.

All the same artists and writers are coming back (Furth, David, Lee, & Isanove).

I assume it's right about when...
Cuthbert, Alain, and Sheemie drag Roland's ass back to Gilead and all the stuff that comes after... like when Roland kills his mother thinking she's Rhea, etc. Hopefully it'll answer some questions and details that were left out about Jericho Hill (where Alain apparently dies at the hands of Roland & Cuthbert).
....

But yeah, it should pick up where "Gunslinger Born" leaves off.

So, it's out guys, just picked it up a little bit ago, a few pages in and it's fantastic! I'm so pleased (I was disappointed with The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born).
It begins with
Roland holding Susan's dead body in his arms after taking her off the charyou post thing... at the point I'm at, he's just been sucked into Maerlyn's Grapefruit (hee hee, that sounds ridiculous if you don't know what I'm talking about :p ).

I thought you were gonna wait and just buy the trade when it came out. I'll be picking it up for sure.
I was going to wait until you told me that Robin Furth's stuff was left out. And I felt that that was the best part of the comic. So, I don't want to risk missing out on anything by getting the omnibus. :p
Was there anything in the trade besides the comic? Maybe I'm missing out on something by not getting the trade?

So, last Wednesday, I picked up 5 of 5 for Dark Tower: The Long Road Home.

I'm done reading it. Well, it was okay I suppose. As always, I enjoy reading Robin Furth's stuff (although I know many of you haven't been able to read it because unfortunately it's been excluded from the graphic novel).
I was just disappointed that
I didn't get to find out any Jericho Hill stuff. That will probably be explored when they do another Dark Tower series.

I also picked up The Dark Tower: End-World Almanac.
