Stephen King: Dreamcatcher

Hey guys, I'm a new member that's been looking for a forum to talk about books in! I was just wondering what you guys though of Stephen King's Dreamcatcher. I'm actually in the middle of reading the Warcraft: War of the Ancients trilogy, but need a break from it, and was going to pick up a King novel. I was just wondering, from those of you that have read it, how it compares to his other novels.

I'm actually in the process of starting my own book and I'm reading a good group of books from different authors and seeing what I like about each of their writing styles, and King is one in particular I have been eying.

Also, if you are a big Stephen King fan, let me know some of his better works that I should make sure to read.
 
I really loved Dreamcatcher. During my Spring semester in 2002, I read it within 6 days. It's one of his friendship books (think It). He also wrote this after his horrible accident in 1999 and from what I've heard, wrote while medicated.

A lot of people didn't really like it... but I sure did. It's up there in my faves and would definitely take the time to re-read it in the future.

Oh, and welcome to B&R.
 
I liked it because it made me laugh. Literally, King used some writing skills that weren't used by him before and completely surprised me. :)

Overall I remember the plot as partly a bit stretched but not boring. If I remember correctly it's not a thin book. :)
 
Thanks for the replies guys! I did take the time to read the first 50 pages a few hours ago, and so far it seems to be a very good book. I haven't really gotten into much actual plot, at least from what I can tell, but something about the way he writes does a good job of immersing me in his stories.

I'm guessing not many people here have read the War of the Ancients books, eh? Probably have to be a World of Warcraft player for that :D.
 
I thought it was fun at times, but far from his best. The
shit-weasels
and
Dean Koontz as a gung-ho soldier without a clue
were a lot more fun than the actual villain, and the whole
walking around in the warehouse of your mind
thing got silly after a while. But there was some pretty good stuff in there - certainly better than From a Buick 8 or Cell.

Actually that was my favorite part about the mind. I am constantly thinking about different things, kids, finances, home, family etc and then there is one part of my brain that is best hidden from everyone else.:)

Yeah that was pretty fascinating, I what I really found great about it is that it was just so weird and original. Like the alien invasion being extra-dimensional and not from outer-space. Also the aliens were very... well alien their way of thinking was so different from the human mind.
 
I tried to read this book once. Emphasis on the tried. I didn't finish, and have zero desire to finish. It's evident that he wrote it while medicated. It shows. :)
 
Dreamcatcher is probably one of my favorite King novels. I don't know why exactly but I liked the 'internal dialogue' that happened. It showed a different side of the whole "OMG alien invasion" thing.

It was by far the best Stephen King book with The Stand being a very close second.

In my opininion of course


Dream Catcher was a decent book I enjoyed reading it I didn't like the movie though

Agreed, my first King was It...I think I have a romantic attachment to this book for some reason...
