I thought King retired. C'mon man, put down the pen for christ sake. Stop feeding the masses with your spoiled meat. Stop rambling on with your drivel.

Have you noticed that only Stephen King threads in this section get posts? I have tried to read others, but there is just no interest in anyone else. That's quite telling if you ask me.

I'm a little disappointed that you didn't post in my Talisman thread there eyez. I was looking forward to hearing your opinion about it, but figured that you were too busy reading a different King book.

Hmmmmm, I'll have to buy this at the beginning of the month when I'm done with my busy work. This would make a great discussion book for february in this section........

Again, his ending sucks horribly.

Supernatural ****.

Now you have me really curious about this one as the New York Times review says the ending is fast and furious, if not a highlight of the book. The Florida Sun-Sentinel review even claims that for it's size, it reads like a much smaller book, with flowing action. I love to read reviews and then see if I come to the same conclusion myself.

Currently reading it-- plot is interesting and characters are unique.

what's not to like?!

-Not Much a King Fan (but trying!)

Isn't there any other who has written horror books?
I wanna have an on-target send-up to media about an old TV Series "Stark Raving Mad" about a horror writer Ian Stark and his assistant somebody and his editor Henry McNeely. To me, there's not more mysterious environment in real life.

I received this book for Christmas. I only managed to read the first fifty pages or so; so far I'm on the fence as to whether I like it or not.

I loved this book. The ending was so-so, but the rest of the book made up for the lacking ending.

Wireman's character was great. I loved the dynamic between him and Edgar, and how King wrote the friendship between the two.

I liked it too. There were a couple of plot holes and one instance of foreshadowing that I wish he would have left out. I really hate "And that was the last time I saw . . . ".

It could have been shorter but, like many other King fans, I enjoy spending time with his characters.

I think King did that a few times. Once he was referring to
Wireman
and the second was not long before
his daughter was murdered
. Regardless, that method of foreshadowing was annoying and made the story less suspenseful. Still, I enjoyed the book. It gets off to a slow start but after the first 70 pages or so the story picks up immensely . . . almost to the point where I had to force myself to put it down. I think this book is my favorite out of King's recent titles, even if it wasn't quite as good as his earlier works.

I'm hoping I'll get to this one eventually...I'm reading It right now.

I think King is one of the best at creating and characterizing his characters, but I have to agree, his endings are often disappointing. I'm hoping It won't be a repeat of Dreamcatcher; I didn't like the ending. I'm not a big fan of the deus ex machina he seems to love...but I can't stop reading his books because his characters seem so real.

Particularly in It, I felt like a child in the 1950s for most of the first half. Can I expect any of that immersion and characterization in Duma Key?
