Stephenie Meyer

Has anyone else heard of her? She has written a pair of vampire novels, the latest, coming out last month, named Twilight and New Moon, both centered around a central character named Bella who meets a family of vampires that live in Washington (because it's so cloudy). She takes a new twist on original vampire lore, and even though it is unorthodox, it does give it an edge over other novels. Comments?

p.s. New Moon is the sequel to Twilight.

My sister, my cousin, my friend, and I all really love Stephanie Meyer. For some reason I can't put my finger on, Bella is so intriguing. But she can be so irritating, too. Kind of like real people... And I really enjoy Meyer's writing.

good writer, kinda liked twilight, and like new moon it a lot , twilight is being made into a film to be premiered this year, personally i think its not movie material, hope im wrong :)

I love Meyer's books. The only thing is that people always assume that all of Washington is cloudy and rainy. I live on the east side of the state and we rarely if ever get rain. It irritates me.

I love her books!!

Try "The Host"...not a vampire story but good.

I have a question about Stephanie Meyer - are her books intended for teens? I don't usually like this category of books, but I have been hearing so much about her trilogy in the past few weeks that I feel compelled to at least try reading it. Is it worth reading for someone who really only reads classics?

Yes these books are meant for teens but are a great read anyway for adults...Cant say if you would like them.Just give it a try and see.Thats what I did.

Thank you Sleepy - that was bothering me, too. I finished Breaking Dawn a few weeks ago and although it was weird in some parts I thought it was a very satisfying conclusion. I read The Host a couple months ago. It is her first 'adult' novel and I think it's fantastic - I definitely recommend it if you're wary of the whole 'teen' genre.

Well I really enjoyed The Host- in fact, I'd probably shelve it with my top favorite books to read.. (Not favorite of all time, but I do enjoy reading it very much :) )
Breaking Dawn, on the other hand, greatly disappointed me. I guess I was expecting too much from Stephenie.

As anyone else heard about the first 12 chapters of Midnight Sun ( a book Stephenie is/was writing that tells the story of Twilight from Edward's point of view) being spread all over the internet? Apparently Meyer is so upset she postponed the writing of the novel until further notice...

Actually my wife is very much a fan of Stephenie Meyer and a frequent visitor of her homepage and here is what Stephenie said about Midnight Sun:

August 28, 2008 (part II)

As some of you may have heard, my partial draft of Midnight Sun was illegally posted on the Internet and has since been virally distributed without my knowledge or permission or the knowledge or permission of my publisher.

I have a good idea of how the leak happened as there were very few copies of Midnight Sun that left my possession and each was unique. Due to little changes I made to the manuscript at different times, I can tell when each left my possession and to whom it was given. The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to trusted individuals for a good purpose. I have no comment beyond that as I believe that there was no malicious intent with the initial distribution.

I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published. I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being. As the author of the Twilight Saga, I control the copyright and it is up to the owner of the copyright to decide when the books should be made public; this is the same for musicians and filmmakers. Just because someone buys a book or movie or song, or gets a download off the Internet, doesn't mean that they own the right to reproduce and distribute it. Unfortunately, with the Internet, it is easy for people to obtain and share items that do not legally belong to them. No matter how this is done, it is still dishonest. This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control.

So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.

I'd rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun. It was only an incomplete draft; the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without driving more people to look for the illegal posting? It has taken me a while to decide how and if I could respond. But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available here (at the end of this message on the Midnight Sun page). This way, my readers don't have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest. I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place.

I do want to take a moment and thank the wonderful fans who have been so supportive of me over the past three years. I cannot begin to tell you how much each of you means to me. I only hope this note will stop all the confusion and online speculation so that the Twilight universe can once again become the happy escape it used to be. After this incredibly busy year, I am now focusing on spending more time with my family and working on some other writing projects.

Why be upset? It's great publicity. People will want to buy the book to find out how it ends. Or they will just read the last chapters while sitting on a comfy chair at the Barnes & Noble while sipping their venti breve.

Hell, if anything it will be an alternate version of the final draft. Still worth reading for the fans, no?

Her writing is not god. I don't get why she thinks people enjoy her books, lmao.

Well, she isnt my favorite...the Host was really good.
But her writing and her books are kind of...well.. no-brainers, I guess.
You dont have to think or use your head to read her books... Especially with Twilight

She is a good enough writer. If you are not accustomed to the romance genre, it may be too much. My wife loves them, and has a crush on Edward, so I forged through the first two books this week. Some of it was so sappy I literally gagged a little.

From a guy's POV, Bella is an idiot. She should dump Edward (the 107 yr old vampire who still attends high school) like a bad habit, and go for Jacob, who is actually pretty cool.

Ed has Looks and smell going for him, but he is a pretty lame character IMHO, his hobbies include watching Bella sleep all night, and drinking grizzly bear blood. Oh, I nearly forgot, he is made of stone.

Jacob is funny, fixes cars and motorcycles and has the huge plus of being human, (most the time) and not drinking blood.

Well... in my opinion, well.. in my mind really, Jacob and Edward are equally attractive...

but Edward does have great taste in music
