Stickies

Either that or unlock them? They were locked before I joined this forum, is there any specific reason for this?

"Currently Reading" is listed right under your screen name. No need for a separate thread on this.

When you finish reading a book, it's best for BAR/TBF if you post about it in an existing thread, or start a new thread so that there might be a discussion about the book, rather than just a single post.

The members discussed it here at length <-- clicky

Then there were polls about each, and the members voted to lock, and eventually eliminate these threads.

We voted to have them locked because the Currently Reading thread became redundant due to the fact we can stick what we are reading in our profile and the I Just Finished Reading was closed in the hope people wouldn't just list books they had read but would be encouraged to open up specific posts on them in the relevant forum.

The problem with the latter is that some people seem to be lacking in confidence as regards posting their thoughts on a book. I know that I, Shade, and Kenny Shovel can post lengthy thoughts on books but even if people were just to create a thread for the book with a few lines on what they thought of it then that could only be good. It should be encouraged.

Ah, OK. Thanks.

I agree. It's a bit confusing at first to figure out which forum is for discussing literature in general and where/if one is expected to post book reviews... I mean, "General fiction" has threads like "What do you think would be the toughest genre to write?", while the "Lolita" thread is in "General Book Discussion" etc... Will try and post some more reviews in separate threads then, that's exactly what I've been missing with no "I just finished" thread.

I think that's more of an issue for the moderators to deal with (and be more proactive about) as the General Fiction forum should be for those books that don't fit into the genre categories and the General Book Discussion should be for the more peripheral discussions (like bookmarks, collectibles, etc.) but not specific books.

People could always help the moderators, as I like to do ( ;) ) by highlighting posts out of place as some will inevitable slip through the net when they are not keeping their finger on the ball as has happened with those two threads you mentioned above.

Still, a bit of publicity about the 'Report Post' feature and trying to get people to post in the right areas wouldn't go amiss.

As far as the stickies go, we're still working on moving the posts with actual discussion into existing threads or creating new ones for them. The sticky threads are huge, and most of us don't have a ton of time to dedicate to this task, so it is slow going. I was working on it for a while, but had to give up for a few months due to lack of time. I'll be able to work on it again now. Hopefully those threads will be gone soon.

As far as posting reviews, don't let not knowing which forum to post in stop you. As Stewart mentioned, one of the moderators will pick it up, and if we don't, undoubtedly Stewart or another member will ;) . There are a few occasions where threads slip through unnoticed, but all members should feel free to hit the report button and let us know that the thread needs to be moved.

Can't you move them into the ModCave so as they don't clutter up the forum with their uselessness to us mere mortals?

Okay. We'll sacrifice the virgin. Who's going to miss an overweight forty-two year old Star Wars fan anyway?

Wicked, evil, horrible person you are....:D :D :D

I was thinking more about the 36 year old guy that works at Blockbuster, still has acne and lives at home over the garage. Oh yeah and he can recite the words to Blade Runner verbatum.

When the "Mature Discussion" forum is finally up and running, is there any chance we can call the "Stickies" in that section "Pasties" :D  :D

Can we get rid of stickies in general. They're kind of annoying, especially now that they are blue.

It could be worse, I know of sites where there about a dozen plus stickies and you have to scroll down before you hit the first unstuck post.
