The Source and Centennial by Michener are two of my all time favorites. Both require a little effort by the reader but are will worth it

Surprising gem
Just finished a self-published book by a bloke I'd never heard of, but it was a present so I gave it a try.
Exceptionally good read ... a surprising gem.

Another Great one:
Ha Aquablue,a great book indeed.
It was and still is a best seller in Cuba,and on of the fav of Fidel Castro.
So at least you have the same taste in books.
I recommend Journey to the End of Night by Luis Ferdinand Celine.It's one of the greatest books of the last century and unfortunately overlooked because of the author's political choices.The language is so alive like reading dialogue and the message the book passes very relevant to today.This book inspired the likes of Satre and Camus and even the Doors wrote a song based on it.
It's my favourite book and I have in vain searched for long for others to match its genius so I'm very open to suggestions.
