suggestion: historical fiction forum

May i suggest that we have a historical fiction forum? So it would be a forum like the fantasy forum, or the thriller forum, etc...

Not a bad idea as it's a great form of fiction but it may be a little too esoteric to have a forum dedicated to it. I can't imagine it being a terribly busy forum. For example the Fiction and General Book Discussion threads aren't exactly overflowing with threads about Rutherford and Michener now.

One cent worth from here. It doesn't sound like a bad idea in the current framework, which itself doesn't seem so bad. But suggestions for a reduced number would be interesting to see. Any ideas from librarians?
I can't classify my 'library' so easily.

Quite often threads that belong in "Fiction" end up in "General Book Discussion". Maybe the two could be condensed? The concept is poor but in practice it may work to have them merged.

So that in effect one might end up with something like: BOTM, General Fiction Discussion, Specific Fiction (Harry Potter, SciFi, et al, and the unmentionable one :) ) ? Plus Authors. No particular objection from here I don't think.
A more uniform thread titling convention might also help for searching and finding things: eg Author - Title, or Title - Author for when a thread finally does get started after initial conversation discovers an interest?
Thinking out loud,

I think that a sub-forum for "Historical Fiction" would be nice, and would gather a nice amount of threads. But to combine "Fiction" and "General Discussion" would be too confusing IMO. After all at present, if someone has a longish thread in the incorrect place, it can be moved. To have to wade thru both would be.......cumbersome.

Why not just list it under "Bookshelves" as the "Science Fiction/Fantasy", and the "Children's Fiction" and "Comedy" is now? If it doesn't gather sufficient threads, simply move it under plain "Fiction".

I agree with all that^ :)

In the longrun, the forum's administrator is never here so such a change will never be implemented in the near future. What we will get, no doubt, is a post from Halo in a month's time saying "We have discussed it and decided not to implement this suggestion", which, if you put it through Babelfish, translates as "we can't do it, so no!"

I know you have strong opinions on the use of invisible mode by admin/mods, but like I said before, I guess it's a personal choice thing...

Hi pontalba! I can't give a definite answer, I'm afraid. Perhaps when TBF is upgraded there will be new or different forums - it's all a bit up in the air at the moment.

By all means keep making suggestions in this forum; Darren does see them, contrary to what some might think. :)

We'll be looking at adding some more "bookshelf" forums in the near future, once our site overhaul is well underway.

As long as the forum looks like generating some interest, we'll consider it.
