I like reading detective books, are there any suggestions on books about detective or mystery or something like that? Apart from that, my teacher has asked us to write a book report on a non-ficiton book? Are there any suggestions for non-fiction books that aren't too boring?

2 birds, 1 stone: A great book is "In Cold Blood," by Truman Capote. It's the story of a murdered family in 1950s Kansas and the search for and eventual capture of their killers, but written more like a novel than like a typical non-fiction book.

From Amazon.com
"Until one morning in mid-November of 1959, few Americans--in fact, few Kansans--had ever heard of Holcomb. Like the waters of the river, like the motorists on the highway, and like the yellow trains streaking down the Santa Fe tracks, drama, in the shape of exceptional happenings, had never stopped there." If all Truman Capote did was invent a new genre--journalism written with the language and structure of literature--this "nonfiction novel" about the brutal slaying of the Clutter family by two would-be robbers would be remembered as a trail-blazing experiment that has influenced countless writers. But Capote achieved more than that. He wrote a true masterpiece of creative nonfiction. The images of this tale continue to resonate in our minds: 16-year-old Nancy Clutter teaching a friend how to bake a cherry pie, Dick Hickock's black '49 Chevrolet sedan, Perry Smith's Gibson guitar and his dreams of gold in a tropical paradise--the blood on the walls and the final "thud-snap" of the rope-broken necks

I feel like that blurb doesn't do the book justice, but it is really very interesting.

Hope that helps!

You should have told what you already read and what you liked. For detective stories, the classics would be "Sherlock Holmes". But I guess you already read it. Jasper Fforde wrote a completely different detective story, it is a wild fantasy but there is a real detective inside it. She is a cool woman. Start from the "Eyre Affair" - see if you like it. Jonathan Safran Foeyer writes stories where people are reaserching for things or looking for their past. It is also kind-of being a detective. May be you should try "everything is illuminated" - it is funny in some bits.

Non-fiction book you should also say from which field and what you like. I like histrorical books. "The pity of it all" by Amos Elon is a bit thick book but it is written very well. A lot to discuss in your report for school.
Good luck!
