I'm trying to read Anna Karenina at the moment but progress is extremely slow as uni has just started again. So much reading to do, so little time. :(

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Americanah

SHORTLISTED FOR THE BAILEY’S WOMEN’S PRIZE FOR FICTION 2014.

From the award-winning author of ‘Half of a Yellow Sun,’ a powerful story of love, race and identity.

As teenagers in Lagos, Ifemelu and Obinze fall in love. Their Nigeria is under military dictatorship, and people are fleeing the country if they can. The self-assured Ifemelu departs for America. There she suffers defeats and triumphs, finds and loses relationships, all the while feeling the weight of something she never thought of back home: race. Obinze had hoped to join her, but post-9/11 America will not let him in, and he plunges into a dangerous, undocumented life in London.

Thirteen years later, Obinze is a wealthy man in a newly democratic Nigeria, while Ifemelu has achieved success as a blogger. But after so long apart and so many changes, will they find the courage to meet again, face to face?

Fearless, gripping, spanning three continents and numerous lives, the National Book Critics Circle Award-winning ‘Americanah’ is a richly told story of love and expectation set in today’s globalized world.

I'm sorry, I don't remember myself making December's BOTM theme winners of the Women's Prize for Fiction, Man Booker, et cetera.

Awwww Snap!! Lol.
Anyway that sounds like a good one Polly. If my library has it, I would give that one a shot. I never seem to be able to time it out right to participate in the discussions.... maybe for December I can get it together.

Occlith suggested prize winners for this month's theme, I thought - given that you've mentioned the Bailey's Women's Prize - you were going along with that, a logical assumption.

But hey.

Ah, the world makes sense again. :)

I had already started this thread before Occlith made that suggestion so I thought it would unnecessarily confuse things if I'd change the theme of no particular theme to prize winners (and look how well that turned out...uhhhh!). Prize winners will be January's theme though.

Can I vote fore The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I'm afraid it's for selfish reasons. Its on my to read list but I've never got round to it. At least this way I'd have to make the effort to dust it off an sit down with it. Apparently it's very good.

Ok from the SHORTLISTED FOR THE BAILEY’S WOMEN’S PRIZE FOR FICTION 2014. I choose Americanah, and the goldfinch. Outside of Bailey's women prize I'm up for anything. "Anna Karenina" jk or what ever else is nominated. I'm excited to vote

OK...so far:

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Amaricanah
Fyodor Dostoevski, The Brothers Karamazov
Donna Tartt, The Goldfinch

I'll leave it overnight and then get the poll running. :)
