Symbolism in Life, Universe and Everything

I am new to reading novels. Earlier I read Agatha Christie and Dan Brown kind of novels which did not have any symbolism. Then after reading the Great Gatsby I doubt whether each book has loads of symbolism.
Right now I am reading Life, Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams. Does it have symbolism or any hidden meaning. Please give examples. Thank you

Would you by any chance be asking us to do school work for you?

Explain to me how you arrived at the conclusion that neither Dan Brown nor Agatha Christie used any symbolism in their writing?

As I have told in my first post, I started thinking about symbolism in novels after reading Great Gatsby. So maybe there was some symbolism in the previous books which I didn't catch. But that is not my concern at the moment. It has been a long time since I started this thread and I have not received a single answer regarding my doubt. Please if you are going to devote your time on this thread, please direct it towards my doubt alone. Thank you.
