Tattoos and Piercings

My body is my temple.

I have many tattooes. I got them before they were trendoid. However; I can wear a singlet and you cannot see them. My first has my daughter's name on it. I have had one removed and that hurt and was VERY expensive.

As far as piercings... yep, some of them too.

When I was about 20, I was invited on my father's boat with him. I said to him "Dad, I have to show you something", ripped my shirt off (I was wearing a bikini) and turned around slowly. He said "It's your body" and not another word was said.

I only regret the one I had removed. The others are an expression of who I am, they're all original.

I know LOTS of people don't like them. That's ok. I'm happy with me.

She must've done something nasty then... ;)

I don't think I'll ever get a tattoo. I love them on other people (obviously, not all), but I don't know if it'd suit me.

Nope, no tattoos, nor piercings - I can't stand needles. My girlfriend has three piercings, though, and I'm quite happy with 'em.

Cheers

lies - I didn't get the one with her name removed! Haha!

Another one..... never get a spider web tattoo!

I have 2 tats, a small paw print on my lower back and a unicorn on my shoulder. Unicorns can look crap and tacky but i really like mine. Its black and done in a tastful way. As it should considering the price. It represents my love of horses and fantasy. I do want more.
Iv had my eyebrow pierced but took it out as it kept catching on things. I want my tongue done but am worried that it'l hurt. Also my pals say its only lesbians that get em done!! do men find them a turn on or a turn off?

k not to harp on the whole " you are my west coast doppelganger" thing, but i had daisies for my bouquet, for the girls, in our hair, on the cake, hanging in strands around the room etc etc etc.

omg, this is getting kinda weird. LOL

Catalyst,

Here in America almost every other teenage girl (16 and over) has either her bellybutton or her tongue pierced. There's nothing about any type of piercing in this country that would peg somebody as a lesbian as far as I know. It's very, very commonplace.

Unless your piercings spell out the word LESBO of course.

I have three small tattoos, all hidden under my usual clothing. I also have the top of my left ear pierced twice , each lobe pierced twice, and I briefly had my tongue pierced. I love my tattoos, one of them is a sun with my children's initials in the center. I keep thinking about getting more, at the least, adding to the one on my wrist.

I've never heard it was a lesbian 'thing', either in Australia or Canada. In fact, from what I've heard it can be a rather 'enticing' thing for a member of the opposite sex.

That being said, I'm not a fan of the idea at all!! I've known a few girls who've had it done. One of them did it herself back in high school - just pulled out the tongue with her fingers and jammed a pin through it. Uurghhh... still gives me the shivers. It was a very bad idea too, because it meant the stud was at the front of the tongue rather than the middle where it's supposed to be (for speaking & eating purposes as well as other reasons ;) )

My old roomate was considering getting one, so I learnt a lot about it from her. A major drawback to it is that it can damage the enamel on your teeth - so if you've had expensive dental work consider the risk to those $5000 teeth. It's also very easy to get infected in the first 6 weeks as there's a fair amount of bacteria in the mouth that can get into it.

I think no matter what you get done - tattoo, piercing, ridiculous hair dye, etc - you've got to ask yourself why you're doing it. If you can answer that with a clear concious and honestly admit you've thought about the consequences, then go for it.

:D im not saying it is totally a lesbian thing, its just something iv heard in passing somewhere. Id like mine done and im not a lesbian, my siser has hers done and she isnt either. i wouldnt like the idea of eating with a tongue stud though! Depends what you eat i spose.

Will someone explain what the appeal of tongue studs is? Is it to shock people, to show you're brave, or what? It's not as if you can wear a different stud like changing your earrings. I don't think it's attractive at all.

Piercing your tongue also gives you halitosis, if you aren't super careful. Is it truly worth the risk?

I know tongue studs are also used in sexual activity.

Catalyst,
I, for one (a red-blooded male of the species), find tongue piercings decidedly unattractive. For one thing, these days you've got to figure that the thing has no signifigance for the girl other than that she "thought it was cool" or "all my friends have them". BORING. I also don't see the appeal of what I will call "porn-star chic".
As far as any signifigance as a symbol - I have heard many guys say that they assume that a girl with a pierced tongue has had it pierced because she really, really likes to perform certain sexual favors for men.

When I say I briefly had my tongue pierced, I mean briefly, like for half an hour. I decided I didn't like it. It felt like I had a couple of marbles in my mouth. I was much more impulsive about my piercings than my tattoos. Piercings aren't as permanent . If I decide I don't want a piercing, thirty seconds later, the stud or ring is out and for all intents and purposes, it is gone.
Miss shelf- you can change the stud in the tongue, just like any other piercing, as long as it has had enough time to heal properly.
*before anyone jumps in with, "but you can get a tattoo removed", I know you can, but they use a laser and it is painful and painfully expensive, a friend had one removed and he said that removal hurts more than aquisition*
