Teen Fiction From late 80's?

There was this book I read in the late 80's or early 90's and this is what I remeber:

• 
  Main character is a boy in high school.
  His dad keeps ice cream locked in a fridge so the boy can't get it
  He plays on the football team
  He talks about some teen sweethearts that go to high school nicknamed "The Lovers"

I am not sure but I think Cacher In the Rye runs along the same lines. It is not exactly as you are describing though.

Sorry the ice cream was locked in the freezer. Not Cather in the Rye. This book was probably based in the 70's.
