The Bilgerat Critic

What are you on about? Everyone knows what 'rubbish' and 'crap' means if you're talking about a film or a book.

eh, then I suppose at least 'rubbish' requires context. Then you should return to it!.....make like a particle and go back to your element

However, unless there's a body of proper critical weight behind something, then "rubbish" and "crap" are simply subjective. And since one person's "rubbish" may be another person's bee's knees and pussycat's whiskers, it says no more to simply decry something as "rubbish" than it does to proclaim something as "superb".

Bollocks. 'Burp' and 'belch' mean nothing - 'rubbish' and 'crap' are perfectly understandable. Helgi's posts are a waste of space and that's why I am going to put him on ignore.

Jeez I remember now why I got fed up with this place.

Bollocks...

I'm afraid I only have metaphorical ones, dear.

I'm not debating anyone else's posts. 'Rubbish' and 'crap' might be "understandable" (yes, we all know what the words mean), but, unless supported by proper critical appraisal, then in terms of posting here that 'X film/book/post is crap', they are as subjective as 'burp' and 'belch' and have no greater meaning.

I would suggest – although I do not know – that Helgi is using 'burp' and 'belch' to show that he/she considers such judgments as "rubbish" and "crap" to be facile and pointless as criticism. Whether they are, in the context of this board, depends on what this board is for in terms of criticism. But that is another question.

You are seriously over estimating Helgi's intelligence. He clearly thinks he's funny and he's just not. He is an irritating ass and it's about time someone called him on his bullshit posts.

I've arrived rather late into this, but I'm actually trying to avoid the Helgi element completely and merely comment on the use of the words previously mentioned – irrespective of what Helgi has or has not said. :)

An attempt at elementary deduction, my dear Sybarite?
