The Devil in sci-fi...

Right, so here's a question: many years ago I went through a sci-fi phase. One of the books I read was a story in which aliens looking remarkably like Satan (red fur, horns, hooves, the works) turned up on Earth and turned out to be not particularly evil at all. Everyone assumed that they had visited before, thousands of years ago, that something had gone wrong and that the image of them had somehow been turned into myth, but there was a twist to that.

Just finished reading Childhood's End. I loved it. The ending I never saw coming.
