The Great Book Abandoner

I will try most books, but I have one hard and fast rule (goes for films as well) - one Jersey joke and it's gone. I've heard them all, I love my state, and frankly, it's a sign of intellectual laziness in the author/screenwriter.

I abandon books all the time. Usually, I'll start reading it, realise it's not my cup of tea, but continue reading a few more pages/chapters, before becoming involved in the story, or putting it aside. Very rarely do I enjoy the story, and then get tired of it halfway through. Sometimes, I think books can start slow, but pick up well, and so I try to read quite a way into it, just in case.

One example is We Need to Talk About Kevin. The first four or so letters were very tiresome to get through, but I gave it a chance on the strength of all the recommendations I've heard, and it was worth it after that.

I used to think there was something wrong in grabbing a book and not finishing it... but if the book is interesting enough, I finish it without problem... so it's just a matter of finding interesting books for me :D

So many good books out there, why bother carrying on reading if your struggling with it.
I used to read until the end even if i was not enjoying it, always in the hope that it would get better, usually it never did.
