The Next President

To start with, there is a lot of coverage of the elections going here in the Middle East, since obviously the next president will have effect on the Middle East, if not the whole world.

I presonally am a conservative type and always like conservative candidates. I don't know much about the candidates but I would go for the bold man John McCain.

As for the democrats, I have recently read a statement from Obama refering to Lebanon and I liked his policies. (http://nowlebanon.com/NewsArticleDetails.aspx?ID=29687)
I don't know if this statement is official...anyone of you heard it?

Campaigning Kids

Why is 27 year old Chelsea Clintion still off limits to the press? She's traveling on the campaign trail and engaging in a public role by personally calling voters, so why is she still the 'invisible' daughter? She's not 12 anymore. McCain's 23 year old daughter, Meghan, happily talks to the press and blogs away. Does Chelsea have some strange complex?

And does Hiilary have the right to 'blackmail' a cable news network over remarks about her daughter? I thought the Clinton strategy was to use Chelsea to connect with young voters - the ones who like to 'pimp' their cars and cribs?

ORIGINAL POST: Guest-hosting "Tucker" last night, MNSBC's David Shuster commented on Chelsea Clinton's Super Tuesday phone calls to the ladies of "The View." In discussing whether this was appropriate, Shuster made an interesting word choice: "Doesn't it seem like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?"

A distasteful comment about Chelsea Clinton by an MSNBC anchor Thursday could imperil Hillary Rodham Clinton's participation in future presidential debates on the network, a Clinton spokesman said.

In a conference call with reporters, Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson Friday excoriated MSNBC's David Shuster for suggesting the Clinton campaign had "pimped out" 27-year old Chelsea by having her place phone calls to Democratic Party superdelegates on her mother's behalf. Wolfson called the comment "beneath contempt" and disgusting.

"I, at this point, can't envision a scenario where we would continue to engage in debates on that network," he added.

The issue in this matter is not that Chelsea was criticized, the issue has to do with HOW she was criticized. To accuse Hillary of "pimping out" her daughter is terribly inappropriate and unprofessional of a journalist. You don't hear them making comments about prostitution in regards to the daughters of the other candidates. That is gutterball attack politics at the worst and the reporter got what he had coming to him.

And does Hiilary have the right to 'blackmail' a cable news network over remarks about her daughter? I thought the Clinton strategy was to use Chelsea to connect with young voters - the ones who like to 'pimp' their cars and cribs?

Once again, should journalists equate a daughter campaigning for a parent to prostitution? Why aren't similar comments made about other candidates? Democrats can't win with FOX, and it appears increasingly, with MSNBC. A candidate should raise cain about this issue. It's good old boy sexism at it's worst by the reporter and Chris Matthews who said the only reason why Hillary was famous is because of her husband's philandering.

Just a few things to consider. I'm all for journalists being challenging, but it should be done tactfully and with taste. The 60 Minutes reporters in the U.S. are great at doingthat, not so much the ones from FOX or MSNBC.

Prostitution didn't come to mind when I read about the comments. I'm used to hearing about 20-something kids pimping rides and cribs - you know - fix them up and make them look much better (in their view anyway)?

Chelsea appears to have had a lot of fixing up - she seems to be looking much prettier these days. She was not an attractive child at times and the media was quite cruel. Was there also a recent nose job? Anyway, I just thought the pimping out remark had to do with Chelsea's improved appearance and using her in the public eye more often because of it.

Pimping out as a slang term these days isn't restricted to sex and isn't a derogatory term, so I just think Hillary's threat to boycott a debate because of a slang term used by a mature and maybe clueless reporter is a bit much. I seriously doubt Hillary and Bill are soliciting campaign donations through sex with their daughter. Even by telephone. Wait, they don't actually have an 800 donation number do they? :)
